Willamette University Admissions Fall 2022

I called admissions and it seems they fill up quickly. It’s also worth getting on the waitlist because people do change their plans. If you cannot make one of the dates, admissions will work with you on another day so the student can still have a tour, sit in on a class, etc. They are very accommodating.

Exciting! My D is so very excited to see W in person and meet new people. See you there!

I would definitely call them up and see if you can get your own private tour, sit in on classes, etc. If you can’t get in on April 1.

Good idea. We’ll shoot for the week of D’s spring break.

You must have cancelled because they offered us a spot on the 1st!

Overall my daughter has found positive things. I will give you negative things from her pov:

  • if you aren’t incredibly extroverted, even if you are involved you may not make friends, seems hard to break into groups where people have known each other in high school, etc.
  • not much happening in campus unless you like sports but having said that she keeps busy with things on her own so…?
  • little bit of hassle getting to airport but not awful, just not at nice as in town. Train/bus very handy.
  • Residence halls didn’t have much going on, some floors had activities but many pretty quiet/dull.
  • dining hall hasn’t been great this year BUT many campuses are struggling with this due to shortages so will probably improve next year
  • very small campus…fast to get across for class but maybe not much space to spread out/walk, etc
  • no one really hangs out in public spaces etc.
  • theatre a little cliquey and hard to break into even in tech
  • residence halls after first year seem bad? People hate them. ? Kaneko good but had been closed…

But this is all the negative stuff. Great teachers, good classes, good on campus jobs, lots of chances to be a leader, alternative theatre club that is fun, nice weather, nice first year halls, nice staff, good financial aid, etc.
 If she likes it go!

Thank you for all your input! We will be at Bearcat Day next week and looking forward to checking out the campus again!

I wanted to add that we were very impressed with Bearcat Day! The admin, faculty and students really went out of their way to welcome families and answer questions.

The day was also fun! They had two catered meals, several tours, a Q&A panel, several tables set up from departments/clubs for more assistance and Q&A, students attended a class, and some fun elements were added in. We met some great people. It felt like a supportive community.

My D left feeling more excited about WU. The professors she met were passionate about teaching and welcoming to her. I feel quite confident she would be well taken care of and that there are several opportunities for work — volunteer and paid positions. I also learned that for students that want to continue on with a 3plus3 grad/law program, they can keep their merit scholarships. Thats quite impressive IMO!

My D loved Willamette also! I didn’t hear about the scholarships continuing for the 3+3 (probably because my D isn’t interested in law school), but that’s phenomenal! Willamette is in her top two (and she can’t decide!). My husband and I are hoping she chooses Willamette.

We really enjoyed Bearcat day too! WU was an amazing host. My D is really excited about Willamette and it checked all her checkboxes. Our only thing is we didn’t have time to tour the music program so we need to do more homework there.

Dd is very excited about the professors and really made a great connection with each one she spoke with. They all seemed so passionate and the overall sense we left with is they care deeply about the success of each student, in every way. I am very confident they will take amazing care of her there and she will have able opportunities for internships, research and etc.

She has narrowed it down to two, I think. But WU is probably her top choice. She is going to chat up some alum and recently graduated students to do her final homework on the school.
