Government Major, History Minor
College of William and Mary
GPA: 3.3 cumulative, but more around 3.5 in Junior and Senior years; around 3.6 in my major.
LSAT: 167
Activities: President of Residence Hall Association; Cadet Battalion Commander in my Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) battalion, soon to commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the military; Parliamentary Debate team, competing against Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, and other Ivy League schools.

Where would someone with these kinds of stats want to apply? Top 30? Does the fact that I'm at a good school offset my somewhat low GPA? What are my odds at getting into a rank 70ish school like Seton Hall University?

that is a good LSAT score; you are competitive in the 30-50 range (william and mary, bc, wash/lee,hastings, american etc. )

I am assuming you will have officer/military experience prior to applying to law school? Are you a resident of Va? If so- I wouldn’t rule out an ED Application to UVA.
May be a long shot- but not impossible. Also Georgetown PT may be a possibility.

Generally speaking a 167/3.3 should concentrate on T-20’s -50’s (I’m a bit more optimistic than BostonEng.) But military experience, being an officer and a 167 LSAT will give your application a bit of a boost.
My kid got a 167 also (but with a higher gpa) and got into several t-14’S. So I wouldn’t rule out a few applications to higher ranked schools- especially with military experience.
Good luck.

I would say it is extremely unlikely to get into a top14… but generally speaking with your military experience and a good personal statement you have a good chance at 25-50 maybe even able to sneak up into gw or washu but I wouldn’t count on it

Thanks for the help guys. I’ve got a list of schools; which of these would you eliminate? Which do I have good shots getting into?

William and Mary
Fordham
Washington and Lee
Seton Hall University
Rutgers Newark
Boston College
Notre Dame
Wake Forest

(Note: I’m a New Jersey resident; if I went to Seton Hall or Rutgers, I could literally live at home, as I live near Newark.)

I’d say apply to all of them, you may not get in to every one of them but you’ll get in to most of them if everything on your app is good.

keep all of them; remember that safeties or even targets will often give you fee-waivers so the total cost of each additional app is only $15. i suspect that will happen for some of your schools.
