In-state
pretty bad GPA - **3.5 weighted/B at a top 100 NOVA public school
slight upward trend
1 AP class soph year
4 IB classes last year
3 IB and 1 AP class this year
got a C in AP English first quarter

SAT: 2080 (710r, 660m, 710w) and no SATIIs

prospective eagle scout, some work/leadership experience working at a summer camp. other than that, not much in the way of ECs.

I'm looking at applying to:
William and Mary
James Madison University
Virginia Tech
University of Michigan (OOS, do i have any chance at all?)

Also, can I consider these to be safety schools:
George Mason
Mary Washington

Honestly, W&M is always a random shot for anyone. I know lots of people who were qualified who didn't get in (but got into UVa and stuff) and lots of people who weren't as qualified who got in. So if anything, it's a slight reach.

You're in at the other schools though. Michigan may also be a slight reach.

Just my opinion, from DD's applications and friends from last year:
W & M: Probably not.
JMU: Probably in.
VT: Probably in.
George Mason: Good safety
UMW: Maybe, maybe not.

Things got dramatically tighter last year at all the state schools. Do you plan to take any SAT IIs?

hey mephist0, what do u mean by "3.5 weighted (school gives +1 towards your cumulative GPA for AP/IB classes, but doesn't report an "unweighted" GPA) at a top 100 NOVA public school" Does that mean that they really don't give a **** about ur unweighted GPA?

the school doesn't report anything but your "cumulative GPA" which gives an A in an IB/AP class 5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=0. Other than that, its on a normal 4.0 scale.
If I were to recalculate the GPA without giving the extra point for AP/IBs, it would work out around a 3.2 or 3.3 probably
