William and Mary Chances

Hi! I'm a current junior, and I honestly don't think I could find a school more perfect for me than William and Mary. I am an in-state female, and I go to a good public school in NoVa.

Junior Year Courses
AP Calc AB
Honors Biology
Honors Junior Research (I hope to be able to publish by the end of this school year)
AP Lang
AP Chemistry
Academic US History
Marketing

Senior Year Expected Courses
AP Calc BC
AP Biology
Honors Senior Research
AP Lit
AP Physics/AP Environmental Science (I'm not quite sure yet which one I want to take)
AP Stats
Advanced Marketing

SAT: 800 M, 630 CR, 590 W (I took it this November, and my CR and W are lower than I predicted, I am retaking it in March and I am expecting around 650 - 700 for both CR and W)
I plan to take the Math 2 Subject Test in January, and possibly the Chemistry Subject Test as well.
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.18 W

Primary EC's: 300+ volunteer hours, NIH internship, member of NHS, Key Club, DECA (I will compete in states (for the second time) and hopefully nationals this year), SNHS

Concerns I have (big and small):
(1) I am not in the top 10% of my class
(2) I don't have a lot of strong EC's (i.e no leadership positions, sports, or music)
(3) I never took an AP history since it was a lot more work than I could handle at the time especially since I was and will be really focusing on research (not really a big deal but still a little worried)
(4) The average accepted GPA at my school is a 4.36, while I have a 4.18 (again not really a big deal but it's still one of my concerns)

If it helps, I plan on doing an interview next summer and am applying ED in the fall. I am also considering double majoring in business and biology.

Thanks so much in advance!!!

I’m glad you really like W&M! It’s one of my favorite schools too. You have a strong UW GPA and are taking a rigorous courseload. 5 APs and research? That’s some pretty impressive stuff. If you raise your CR scores to at least a 650 (W&M primarily looks at CR+M) you’ll already be at the 75th percentile. No need to worry about math as much since you already aced it. I never took a 4th year of language or an AP math course, people have different strengths and weaknesses. Being instate, ED, and doing interviews will help. If you can, perhaps run for a leadership position if you want to take on the responsibility, but some people are just leaders without a title and that’s okay too. W&M is not crafting a class where every person is the same. You still have plenty of time because you are a junior. Good luck!
