Okay so I have no idea if i should enroll in BC or W&M (OOS) next year. Based on the following facts what would you recommend? I am considering going to law school but if not I will go on to business school. I want to make sure I get good grades and learn as much as I can but still have a very active social life by making great friends and attending parties. I love that W&M has Greek life but i also love that BC has great sports teams. I live in CT so I would want warmer weather. I like Williamsburg but I LOVE Boston and all it has to offer. please help if you went to either school or know people who have experienced either!
I also hope to get involved in theater, a cappella and mock trial!
I’m in the exact same situation. Just went to BC today and W&M last week and am absolutely in love with both. I feel like at this point in time I’m leaning more towards W&M but that’s how I felt about BC just a few hours ago. I know this isn’t much in the way of help but I totally get where you’re coming from on this.
@tshaba14la I’m happy I’m not alone in the struggle! What are you leaning towards and why???
Right now W&M since it’s cheaper than BC, even OOS. I’m also looking to get to a different part of the country and there was a prevalent sense of community both times I went there, not saying that BC doesn’t have one it just felt stronger at W&M. Other than that, the two schools are nearly exactly the same in terms of academics and prestige. There is no wrong choice deciding between BC and W&M and I’m psyched I have both those options, but that still doesn’t make it any less of a tough decision.
@tshaba14la @LetMeInCollege88 I’m struggling to pick between W&M OOS and another great school, Rice. I’m happy I am not alone as well! Maybe we could try and help each other out?! Right now, I just feel like I would want to live in Virginia and that area more than in Houston. I have family near W&M too. But I suppose the big debate comes down to choosing between a private university and a public state-funded school. I feel that there would be greater opportunities at a school that is more financially resourced, which is why I am leaning towards Rice. I love both though. It is definitely a hard choice.
Congrats on Rice! Did you go to the accepted students day at W&M? I know they had a seminar on undergraduate research and they stressed that they received “UVA-size” funding even though they’re a much smaller school. You’d probably know more about Rice than I would so I don’t think I would be of much help in that department.
@tshaba14la Yes I was at admit day! I was even sitting in at the research seminar but I still feel lost about what to do… Maybe it will just come to me…
One of the benefits of W&M is that it is heavily undergraduate focused, which extends to the research opportunities.
DD is a fairly recent grad of WM and OOS New England. Smaller class sizes, more affordable, and super social high achievers led her to WM. She met some great folks from all over the east coast at WM. Many of her good WM friends are at BC or ivies for grad school now. Not a lot of partying freshman year, but very social and active student body. Smaller school with more opportunity for research, volunteering, and such great profs.
@LetMeInCollege88: BC is a great school, but if you want warmer weather, and want to save $$, then your best choice would be WM by far. You can always apply to grad school in NE. I am sure you will be very happy at WM.
Eight feet of snow in Boston this past winter might be more NE weather than you’d like!
