I applied to William and Mary as an out of state student. I had lived in VA for a while but moved over the summer. Does anyone know if they have some sort of quota-esque system for different states?

For instance, would someone from New York have different chances of getting in than someone from like, Arkansas (no offense, Arkansas)?

Obviously some states like NY which sends a ton more apps than say alaska is going to be more competitive. There isnt a quota exactly but yes it will be a little more competitive as schools try to be more “diverse”.

Virginia state universities must admit no more than 30% out of state students but there is no quota for individual states or regions. They do strive for diversity so a candidate from Alaska (all other qualifications being equal) may have a better chance than one from New York or New Jersey.

I live in Arkansas! hehe!
hm… Usually state universities tends to favor students from their state.
as for other states… some of them wants to be diverse and group their applicants so that they could get a good representative sample.
