William and Mary RD 2020

@citivas thanks.
Accepted “OOS”
2020 SAT
I really think I might go here. Their wittiness is amazing.

I was accepted a while back (likely letter) as a Monroe Scholar! 2120 SAT/33 ACT, OOS (IN). I am not sure if I will go yet (also accepted at Cornell and Vanderbilt, waiting on Brown and I have heard the OOS financial aid is crap), but I honestly loved the people and the campus when I visited!

I take it from your screen name you applied to Brown ED and were deferred? Cornell doesn’t wait to 3/31 5pm like the rest of the Ivys?

@citivas Cornell sent out a group of likely letters mid March. My son also got one.

Hey guys, has anyone gotten something in the mail yet? I was accepted OOS from PA. The “Good Things” email from Wednesday said to “Be sure to check your mailbox closely in the coming days” but nothing has come so far and I’m starting to get concerned.

Also accepted OOS PA. No mail today, but not concerned…it’s on it’s way!
Congrats

@M467 Ok, thanks. And congrats to you too!

@Beatofopinion I saw you post on Haverford that you were accepted. My son was accepted to W&M and we are still waiting in CA for Haverford. Congratulations!

@pasadenamom thank you! And good luck to your son!

Decision: Rejected

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (cr+m+w): 1870 /2400 (CR: 620, M: 550, W: 700).
(cr+m): 1170 /1600.
[
] GPA: 4.0/4.0 W (just under a 3.4 UW)
[] Rank: my school doesn’t rank but they send deciles to the colleges we apply to. I’m in the top 30% or so, probably closer to top 25% (of 500 students). But, William & Mary takes students at the very top of each class at my school it seems :frowning: it’s a pity because the two students who they did admit this year aren’t going to accept their offers of admission.
[
] APs: 8 AP Courses.
place score in parenthesis): AP English Language (4), AP Spanish Language (3), AP US Government (I took this course my sophomore year) (3), AP Environmental Science (N/A), AP World History (N/A). The other 3 I’m taking this is: AP English Literature, AP Psychology, and AP Human Geography.
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[
] College courses? If so, list them.:
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Psychology, AP English Literature, AP Human Geography, Introduction to Engineering, Honors Chambers Chorus, Honors Calculus w/ Applications (1 semester), Sociology (1 Semester), Internship (second semester-- second half of the day).
[
] How were your essays? Rate out of 10: 9 out of 10 for Common App essay. For the optional supplements, I only did one. I’d say 8 out of 10, nothing too impressive I feel like, considering it had to be less than 100 words (I think? I don’t really remember the exact word count but it wasn’t an actual essay).

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Extracurriculars: Eagle Scout (I’m also the Troop’s Librarian), Vice President of Spanish Honor Society, Secretary and Peer Buddy for Best Buddies (club that works with students who have intellectual/developmental disabilities), Historian for Model United Nations-- won Outstanding Delegate Award at the Spring County Conference, Assistant Counselor for Summer Camp, and I have a job as a tutor for a local education service.
[
] If International, from what country?:
[] School Type: Public
[
] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[
] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): N/A.
[li] Living on-campus? Yes[/li]
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Extracurriculars and essays maybe.
[
] Weaknesses: my GPA and test scores definitely.

[/ul]General Comments/Additional Information:[list]
I tried so hard :frowning: William & Mary was and always has been my top choice. I did everything I could after I visited their campus sophomore year. I fell in love with the school. I’m very disappointed with the outcome but I’m moving on to my other options. I guess this means I’m meant to be somewhere else :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I was deferred, and I got a LL from Cornell (Diversity Hosting)! @citivas

Daughters first and only rejection. It only stung but a bit  We are local so it wasn’t one of her top choices (it was her #5 of 7) because who wants to stay near mom and dad. Her stats- her weighted GPA is 4.39 and her unweighted is 3.9something. Her ACT was a 31, she didn’t submit SATs. She’s got all the usual APs, honors, etc classes. ECs - band, JROTC, soccer. She had a really great common app essay (lots of great feedback on it) no clue how decent the LORs were. Guessing what hurt is she moved to the state after 10th grade and it hindered some things like class rank and being able to get an advanced diploma most VA students get if they have followed the prescribed classes, and her ECs were probably a little weak for the W&M crowd.

Accepted OOS DE. Still waiting on NYU
