William and Mary's strengths

Legacy is parents, but that is stretched most places to include sibs and other relations. I don't know if that means actually getting into a different File Pile, and I don't think I have ever heard Legacy is as big a factor as it is at UVa, where it really does get you into a different pile. So I don't know but common sense says: I think Legacy via your uncle or biological father counts because what counts is What YOU Say...My uncle's devotion to Wm and Mary opened my eyes to the value of choosing a more demanding but rewarding path, and I would like you to know that I would be honored to be another member of my family who can claim WM etc. I am seeking an intense undergrad experience with full Profs and few TAs and my long term goals include...Be Specific.
Your biological dad. I am also from a divorced set of parents. But you can claim your father's legacy by making a specific statement about wanting to make that positive connection with your biological parent who due to circumstances in life did not raise you. Find out some anecdotes about his experience and find a connection that you can be proud of regardless of his absence. WM has always been a great college and he lived there four years.
Good luck. It would be a degree to be proud of always.

wow thanks alot would u mind going on the interview for me..lol

Would love to claim it, can you tell. I was waitlisted in 1974! And very naive about what they expected and about how hard it was to get in from OOS. My S is going to a different college, but spent last Labor Day doing an overnight at Wm and Mary, got up and attended three classes and deeply respects the College and his friends there. The faculty is superb and the place is very similar, dare I say it..to Dartmouth in feeling. Historic campus that is the real thing, not fake or a wannabe, and largely an undergrad focus with a handful of good grad schools. Bargain for the money.
PS You have all it takes if you are genuine, open and positive to do well in an interview. Come prepared with being able to comment frankly on your strengths and to pinpoint challenges you still face.

ill take that as a tentative yes

ha ha.. just another parent having difficulty breaking the CC habit, but if they do still want aging 70s kids in the class of 2010

yea really im already like addicted....god damn colleges admissions process but it will all be worth it in the end if i get accepted to even 1 of my reach or match schools

thx faline, you are extremely helpful and knowledgable and full of extremely good ideas.

good luck to both of you and may your first year be golden whereever you land
Krypton check your PMs

i am new to this site and i didnt mean to use the word Dam* and it was not directed towards any1 in particular i just thought at the time that it would fit but upon later reflection i realize that my choice of language does not reflect my attitude or my character and i sincerly apologize to all who i might have offended and only hope that i do not get shunned out of the great adivce that i kno this board and site offers

it's ok,I didn't even notice. WM is just so, so cool. I hope I can get in.

what fields is wm known to be especially strong for? Anyone hear of their oxford study abroad program?

well..when i went to W&M i found the campus to be beautiful, the location..of course was lovely because its in Historic District. However, i found the student body to be all the same, there wasnt any diversity like in interests, race, beliefs, it didnt seem diverse in anything. i only saw 1 person of color during my visit, and i came when school was in session. The student body seemed friendly and inviting, but it was hard for me to look past the population diversity issues. Another thing i found strange was how tourists just came onto the campus to set up their picnics, take a nap, etc. Because W&M is in the CENTER of the historic district, it attracts soooo many people, so it seemed crowded because there were soooo many tourists all over the campus, it was out of control. But thats all i have to say about W&M, academically, its selective, because they emphasized that because it is a state school it has to have 70% VA residents as its student body, therefore, being a non-VA resident, you really have to make sure you shine out of all the other out of state applicants..but goodluck if you apply there

Hey derek --

A tennis teammate is on the George Mason University Russian faculty. Nowhere near W&M in selectivity, but has diversity that go-gaux might be seeking.

Good luck to you both in your search!

thx alot...I am transferring where state residency is not as important.

what are some good questions to ask on the interview if i am interested in the business school?

WM is a beautiful school and Williamsburg is a beautiful city. I'm thinking about going there too. The teachers are pretty dedicated but if anyone said its easy they lied. It is hard, and the profs grade really hard. An alomst-big-sister family friend of mine went there and she did really well. Shes really smart but not a super genius or anything. As for the tourist question...its really not. In summer people head there for Bush Gardens and Water Country ( 2 pretty cool theme parks), but you won't encounter that on campus. Colonial Williamsburg is really cool and mostly old people go there to walk around, but none of the people would bother you. The city has been campaigning for more tourism though. The school is great...the students are pretty fairly laid back, i guess depending on who you hang out with. There are people of all types on campus and because its mid-small you meet a lot of them. Also, WM kids aren't as ugly as some people say (haha). I also like how Williamsburg is really accessable to all sorts of areas- You're like half an hour from a big, cultural city (Richmond) and also not to far from pretty bare places like Gloucester. And if you want to experience all the seasons- I mean pretty fall, almost-but-not-quite-cold-enough-to-snow-except-for-some-small-flurries-and-one-or-two-blizzards-no-in-betweens winters, as-pretty-as-fall-spring and superhot summer (not that you'd be here REALLY in the summer)...COME TO VIRGINIA lol

thanks illnevergetin, very nice weather description

oh yeah, I forgot, I was born and lived in virginia for awhile, the weather is much better than florida's.
