bumpppppppppppppppppppppp please any help?

can anyone give me any any any advice seriously? i wouldn’t be asking unless i needed input- i usually don’t post/

You probably want to give it a day or so to get some real opinions since it’s a Sunday night on a Holiday weekend, but here’s an amateur look. I’m assuming you are a resident of CT and can’t claim In-state elsewhere though don’t forget about Reciprocity agreements in the NE Schools – I don’t know if that changes admission rates, but it can certainly qualify you for In State Tuition rates.

You Weighted GPA and Class Rank aren’t stellar, but I don’t know how stringent your school might be so it might be better than at first glance. I only see a few AP’s, but I’m not sure if you listed them all or not.

SAT’s are pretty good and certainly puts you in good standing for most of the schools listed though they aren’t off the scale.

EC’s are certainly above average.

I think Furman is certainly should be a reasonable chance for admission though I don’t see anything that would suggest a large merit scholarship – I’m assuming you aren’t a National Merit Candidate?

William and Mary might be a bit of a reach – your SAT looks like would put you in the top third of last years admissions, but as a Public School with about 70% instate it puts you at a bit of a disadvantage.

Wake and Emory are realistic chances - maybe a little reach, but I think you would fit into the mid pack of their accepted students. Financials might be hard though.

Duquense – OOS admits around 20% though your SAT puts you well above their 75% so I;d say a significant better chance than Coll of W&M

Pitt, UConn, Richmond, Elon I’d say you have very good chances particularly if your school is recognized as academically strong.

Thank you thank you for responding- and i completely forgot that its a Sunday of a holiday weekend! What is the Reciprocity agreement? I’ve never heard of it- also my school doesn’t have that many APs- I took all honors classes for four years plus the APs i listed (APUSH, currently AP English and Physics) plus a two regular level classes. I’m going to major in Physics (I finally realized what i like to study!)- as a girl would that give me any sort of advantage in admissions? PS. my sister goes to Duquesne/ when i visited they told me I’d receive at least 10 grand in scholarships a year so not to assume I’m in- I think i have a good shot at Duq. However- my big reach is WM and its my dream school. So you think its a major reach? (that’s what i was anticipating- yes my GPA is a little low which stinks!) Also- the one school that I haven’t visited that I know I want to apply to is Furman- any advice about that? Thanks again for responding i really appreciate it! (and no- I’m not a National merit candidate)

Being female is no longer a major advantage in most schools - RPI, Ga Tech, etc you might get a nudge if not a push.

W&M is a reach particularly for OOS, but if it’s YOUR dream see if you can talk with someone in admissions there and see what they say about how you can improve your odds over the next few months. Having a reach in the #1 slot isn’t a bad think IMO particularly since I think you have some very reasonable good schools on your list (for admission, FA is a different animal).

If you took the highest level courses whether it’s Honors, AP, IB then that’s all you can do – you can’t take what’s not there. If the Private Parochial is known for extra strong college prep then don’t panic over the GPA, but you may need to have your Guidance Counselor or LOC stress how strong your program is. Your SAT;s certainly can be used to show that your not in a normal situation (Top 25% class rank with 90 percentile scores). If people from your school have been admitted to W&M recently and performed well especially if your profiles was similar can be used as a plus.

Out of State reciprocity comes in a few forms, but basically allows an out of state student to pay In State tuition. There are some State to State agreements to ‘exchange’ students and some regional agreements. Sometimes these agreements can be only certain schools, sometimes only for certain programs not offered in the Home State, and sometimes only for Grad Programs, But it’s worth searching. There should be some searchable thread on CC with information.

i got totally excited while i was reading the websites you listed until i read the fine print =( ! The only way i would receive in state tuition as an OOSer is if i went to schools in ri, vt, maine, ri, mass or nh- also even more importantly- i would need to major in something that is not offered at UCONN or a state school (i was planning on majoring in physics- most schools have physics =/)

But still that was a great idea- i’m definitely going to keep looking into it past the major requirement. FA for me is not a good situation: basically all the money I receive is going to come from merit based scholarships, which is why the schools I will probably end up applying to/ the school I attend will be the one (s) that throw the most money at me. Which is why I hope my SATs make up for my GPA. oh well!

On the topic of a girl physics major- should I look into RPI and Georgia Tech? (I dont think my app will be strong enough to get into GT- RPI maybe though. Except I am interested in maybe minoring/double majoring in English so I don’t want to be at a strictly hard sciences/engineering school)

Also- I interviewed at WM- I am in LOVe with that place! I’m trying not to get my hopes up though because I know as an OOS female, I have a lot of negatives stacked up against me: hopefully they see through it! One (maybe 2) girls from my school apply to WM every year- i think one got in last year and the year before but they didn’t end up attending. (My school is all girls Catholic btw) Anyway thanks you’ve been a great help- any more advice?

Physics at RPI and GT are very good to excellent. i’m not aware what their scholarships offers are, but the RPI Medal Winners are common enough and supply about 15K/year (typical Cost though is around 50K). English is Ok at RPI and probably a bit better at Tech.

If you haven’t already - check with the GC about the girls who applies and were accepted to W&M and how your overall numbers compare. He/She may have a better feel for how your school is perceived. Pursue the school you LOVE first until she tells you otherwise.

I’ll throw out another program at least to consider if finances are a major stumbling block and your willing to look at an entirely different type school.
The state of Alabama has been putting a lot of money at their Universities for a few years to attract and keep National Merit and other high achieving students both in-state and OOS. I think right now you’d qualify for at least 2/3 OOS tuition with your current ACT/SAT. If you’re planning a retaking the SAT you are right on the cusp of a full tuition ride if you can get the M+CR to 1400 (I can’t figure out how they use GPA on the cutoff however).

The Honors Program/Dorms and all the new facilities that have gone up over the last 5-8 years are just astounding. This includes a massive upgrade to the Science and Engineering programs and facilites. UA doesn’t have the reputation in Physics as most of the others, but I would say it is rapidly improving in all Sciences and a lot of folks are realizing that Graduate School is now where most of the true Elite Program action exists so any $$$ you save now can be used for later education.

Bama is too far…my mom barely is letting me apply to Elon and WM and I’m currently trying to convince her that Furman is worth the distance.i wish i could do that program though- i looked up their instate tuition is like 8 grand!! oh well. anyway thanks for helping again. I don’t know if i mentioned it before/if it would give you any more ideas to help me but I’m planning on majoring in Physics and taking engineering and premed requirements the first year (Physics, Calc, Chem) and then figuring out if I want to go engineering or med school route. Do you know of any mediums sized LACs/smaller universities (around 5-12 thous) with either substantial merit aid/scholarships or ridiculously low tuition or both? (Preferably no farther than nc/sc/va). I’m not even sure if such a school exists lol it’s like the “dream situation”

PS can anyone else CHANCE me! PLEASEEE! I need some solid advice!
