Congrats to everyone who got in! We’re the best!!! For those of you defered or denied, there is still a school out there for you, you’ll go where you’re meant to.

Woohoo Admitted!! So glad to be a part of this amazing group!

Congratulations!! @WAMbamthankyou

It’s just weird that after all this, it’s over. I totally pictured myself there next year. I thought I"d get in. Deferred is a pretty big shock. Worst Christmas ever. Would someone who got in be willing to post what the admissions e-mail looked like? I heard there was a griffin cartoon and I just really wanna see it

i would post the griffin but i’m not very tech savvy :/

So sorry you weren’t accepted @Runnergirl76 I hope you get accepted regular decision! You could call or email admission and ask them what you could do to improve your application and show you’re still so interested, they take note of things like that. I don’t know how to post the griffin for you!

I’m gonna have my admissions counselor call and ok thanks for trying I’m pretty bad with tech too :)

I’m gonna try to transfer too

For aspiringwmgirl who wanted to know what percentage of deferred get in- unfortunately that number is very small. the regular application cycle is even more competitive than the ED pool. I think W&M comes pretty close to saying “move on” when they say that there are lots of great schools out there and that you should be sure to find one that matches your dreams. I am not affiliated with admissions and this is not an official statement- I am just an alum who has two kids who went/go there.

If you have something major that changes your application submit it and certainly send that letter of continuing interest, but not many from the deferred list get admitted regular decision.

Son was accepted yesterday and we’re so happy! We feel for those denied or deferred because waiting on that decision was agonizing. Hope that all of them find their “perfect” school. Does anyone know if students accepted now have to withdraw their applications from other colleges or is it enough to know that they will turn other schools down if accepted? Son applied early (non-binding) to a couple of other schools that don’t respond until early next year.

On the Admitit blog, someone asked and the W&M admin said that all other applications must be withdrawn.
And that is only fair because if your son didn’t, then he might get a spot that he will not use and deprive someone else of the spot they were dreaming of!

I found this older post regarding being deferred during ED http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-william-mary/1042517-deferred-ed.html
I think it’s helpful. Trying to help my DS through this process and his grieving. It’s no fun!

Accepted! when I found out I started crying (tears of joy of course!) that’s never happened to me before! Anyway, for everyone who was denied or deferred, I’m sincerely sorry and hope the best works out for you. I was thinking of making a Facebook group so everyone accepted to William & Mary class of 2019 could connect together but I wasn’t sure how to connect people and let them know it’s there…any suggestions?

Congratulations everyone, and welcome to the tribe! It’s honestly great to see so many people care about a school as much as you do. Following this thread for the past few weeks has been almost as nervewracking as being admitted myself. Know that you are in an awesome place now and feel free to relax, celebrate, and go out and get as much green and gold as your heart desires. I’ve already met a bunch of you, but feel free to contact me and use me as a resource as a current student.

To those who may not have gotten in ED, don’t despair! I know it’s an awful feeling not being able to get into your first choice school, and I can empathize. Before receiving my acceptance letter from W&M, I was deferred or waitlisted from almost half my schools. It can be scary. But you will find an awesome place, I promise. Choosing a college can sometimes be like a relationship, sometimes love happens in the most unexpected of places. By applying ED, you showed that you have a connection to a lot of what W&M represents: passionate, fun-loving, hardworking, intelligent, honorable, imaginative, compassionate, and all-around-awesome human beings. So while you may not be a part of the Tribe here at this moment, you will always be in spirit. And that spirit will take you far, no matter where you go.

And don’t forget, your journey is not over yet. If you were deferred, treat this as another shot because you got another chance at all your schools including W&M. And even if you were denied, you’ve ways to go as well and if later on you decide to transfer, W&M accepts plenty of transfer students. But more likely than not, find a place that resonates with you. You will find a home, you will have friends that you do incredibly silly things with, and you will look back thinking “I couldn’t have imagined going anywhere else.”

Congratulations again to the Class of 2019!

end inspirational speech here

jk there’s already a Facebook group…nevermind

Deferrals: Please do NOT think of it as, “I didn’t get in.” Because the more accurate description is, “They converted my application to RD and now I’m on the same timeline as everyone else. How can I use this to my advantage?”

You know your application is at least competitive, or else you would have been denied outright. You now have an advantage over most RD applications in that you know you need to send them more information. Midyear grades, activities, new test scores, send them SOMETHING to show you’re even better now than when you originally submitted your ED application. You’re going up against RD applicants who feel just as confident about their chances as you did a few months ago… but you now know you need to make a better impression, and most RD applicants don’t know yet that their case isn’t good enough.

Denials: It hurts. I know, I’ve been through it (not W&M, but other great schools). Take a few days to think about what you could have done differently or better, and sharpen your efforts on your other applications. You will get in somewhere good, and you will be happy again when you actually start college. I promise.

GL to all of you.

@jpvn2015 I guess you don’t need to keep your hopes and expectations in check anymore. ;D
