William & Mary Class of 2020 ED Applicants Discussion

y’all, I feel like today is the day…i have a gut feeling! getting excited/more nervous!

I have a gut feeling too! But then again I get butterflies in my stomach every time I think about it…

The Admit it! blog and W&M Admission instagram said the decisions will be released on 12/6 evening

@backnumber1122 …wmadmission on instagram says, “We plan on sending decisions via email BY Sunday evening”…so could be as early as Friday night. I’m thinking BY means “no later than”. Hang in there everyone…breathe!!

Butterflies in mom and DS’s stomach today !

I’ve got a feeling you guys will know in an hour

Go tribe ! Sam is IN!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to those of you who have just received a “Good Things” email! You deserve it! Go Tribe!

But to my friends who have received less-than-favorable news: please do not dismay! This decision has no bearing on your value as a person, nor as a student. Many of you are quite simply victims of chance. College admissions these days have a distinct “lottery” aspect to them, due to both the characteristics of our generation and the steep increase in the number of schools students apply to (used to be 3-5, now most kids apply to 10+). In many cases, half the students admitted could have been just as easily deferred, and VICE VERSA. I’ve seen kids get into UVA but get denied from JMU, honest to goodness. I know that there’s nothing I can say to make the pain go away right now, but please do not beat yourself up over this, and know that you aren’t alone. This time last year I received my news by surprise and in public. My night was marked by embarrassment in front of my peers and an unbelievable amount of crying - I really do understand exactly how you feel, because it happened to me.

Please, if you want to talk to someone about it, I’m all ears. Feel free to PM me.

Bad news, this is my first child going through this process and I can tell you it sucks. I’m sure every parent whose child was denied feels the same as I do now, angry, disappointed and a little confused. My daughter went to one of the best public schools in Illinois and did great, over 4.3 GPA, a ACT score in the 30’s and all while working 20 hours a week, but I guess that wasn’t enough.
Good luck to all the kids who got accepted.

The whole admissions process is a numbers game in which the colleges are heavily favored . Good luck to your daughter . She sounds like a hard working and terrific girl and she should do well wherever she goes

@northshoredad1 I am sorry to hear that your daughter was not admitted. I’m sure you are aware that OOS females are the most difficult demographic to be admitted from. Make sure she knows that just because she didn’t get William and Mary doesn’t mean she won’t get into Northwestern, Boston College, University of Michigan, or any other number of elite schools. If she wants to talk about it, she can absolutely PM me.

Thanks to you both, this was much easier 33 years ago. Oh well, two weeks before she hears from next two schools. She’s taking this WAY better than I am.

Good! She must be a strong girl - I’m sure you’re very proud of her. Wishing her the best of luck with her other school!

I’m in!!! I’m so excited!

@Hockeygirl58 YAY! I am beyond thrilled for you! Hopefully we will be classmates next year… I’ll know for sure by March. Guess I better actually start knitting your hat!

I got accepted to the class of 2020!!!

Should we post stats or not?

Hey guys! I’m checking in because my little brother applied ED and I have yet to hear anything from him. Have all decisions been released at this point? In wondering if I should give him a call because I’m pretty worried… :frowning:

@Hockeygirl58 It will come in handy for students next year. I think it’s a good idea for all of you to post your stats and results.
@collegebound1915 sometimes it takes a little bit for the emails to go through, but all ED decisions have been released to the best of my knowledge. I wouldn’t bombard him, he will tell you what happened when he’s ready.
