My AP scores aren’t good enough to show and offset my grades unfortunately.
And yea my unweighted GPA is fairly abysmal, expecially considering around around top 28% as opposed to top 10%. I’m hoping they’ll just look at my senior year improvement as of yet. My 11th grade gpa is an anomaly in context with the rest of my years.

Yea I’m pretty stressed about this. I know there are lots of other colleges that could be the right fit for me, but I really want to go to this school. I know I’ll have to cope and find another college if I’m not given acceptance, but I’d really like to maximize my chances you know?

How about SAT II subject tests? Those would also show that you have a deeper knowledge and understanding of subjects which may not be reflected by your grades.

I’m taking SAT Math II in December 1st. By then it’s too late.

On another thread I noticed someone say that I should contact W&M debate coach? Would that help? Because to my understanding, a lot of the sports coaches sometimes mention to the admissions committee that they want a particular athlete.

I have quite a few awards in debate and speech. Some of which are national.

The coaches usually contact the athletes(recruit) and that is done way before ED - admissions has already vetted those applicants. I would think it is too late for the debate coach to have an impact as they have been reading applications for a couple of weeks. I think it would seem like a last minute thought as opposed to having a passionate interest in debate team while at W&M.

Oh well. I guess I just have to wait. But given my other threads and what not, would you say my chances for Early Decision is slim, even with the empirically approximate 48 percent acceptance rate?

Remember it is not as though they have to take 50 percent of applicants- they will accept those students who best fit the class they want to build… That said, you are competing against other highly-motivated students who want to attend W&M as much as you (or they would not have applied ED), recruited athletes, and other students who were sought out. I think you have a pretty good chance- it would be better if your high grades were substantiated (SATs or APs). Your extra-curriculums seem a bit all over the place- sometimes it is better to show focus than “quirkiness”… It really is all about what admission wants… I think you will probably have just as good as a chance as other highly motivated students.

Would it help much that I had an interview (which I’d like to think went fairly well), painted a picture of a part of the campus?

Oh and I’m trying to magnify the “quirky” characteristics because the Admissions committee says that it individualizes the applicant, or something like that.

Remember when you said that there are high GPA/SAT scores who got rejected… ? There are so many intangibles that you just have to sit back, relax, and have confidence in your application/credentials. There are no guarantees because no one except W&M knows the applicant pool. No one except those readers have any idea as to what will make one applicant stand apart. Last year’s statistics can only give you an insight into last years admits - that’s it. One year Brown had 10,000 applicants; the next year 30,000… I would probably put your worries aside and focus on your senior year. You will find out soon enough whether all your worries were for naught. (Did you really paint a picture of campus? Why?)

Mr… Did you look at other schools? Your whole world seems to rely on getting in to W&M. Christopher Newport and Mary Washington gave strong similarities, I hear, and aren’t as difficult with regard to admissions. Not saying you won’t get in, but do you have a Plan B?

Yea I have a Plan B. I was going to apply to other Virginia schools. Then some out of state ones like Case Western Reserve and NYU. Stuff like that.
