We anticipate financial aid being released some time this week and yes, our off-campus housing website can be helpful. There’s also an on-campus program in June for enrolling transfers at which many students find roommates and housing options off campus

Is the on-campus program in June for enrolling transfers the same thing as the Admitted Students Day. I won’t be able to attend the Admitted Students Day and I was concerned I would miss out on some important information. Also, how many transfers generally apply for on campus housing? And if we must take off-campus housing, are they usually close enough to walk to the main campus? I’m sorry for so many questions! I am just getting really concerned about where I am going to live next year and how I will fit in without the freshmen dorm experience. Thanks!

To all transfer students: please join the Facebook page I made! :D

@W&M Admission or anyone…

I have looked over the website but still do not completely understand how the admission process works for the Mason School of Business. I have been admitted to the college!, but I realize admission to the Mason School is separate. I am a little concerned about enrolling before knowing if I would be able to study business. If anyone could share some information about the process it would be much appreciated!

I am new to the thread so sorry if this was previously discussed.

deerpark, the event in June is different from the event in May. The event this weekend focuses on helping students learn more about W&M (there’s a campus tour, an academic department fair, etc.) whereas the event in June is geared towards helping those who have chosen W&M get prepared to come here in August. There are some parts that overlap but the June event focuses a bit more on housing, credit transfer, meeting administrators on campus who are resources for transfers, etc.

Not sure how many transfers apply for on-campus housing but it’s generally more than we can accommodate but it varies from year to year. Unfortunately there are not a lot of apartments within walking distance of campus and those that are are already leased by current students. However, many apartments are accessible by the James City County bus system which W&M students can ride for free.

Godric, thanks for creating a site but there’s already a Facebook page for admitted transfers that’s linked from the transfer welcome website ([William and Mary Admitted Transfer Students 2011 | Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/pages/William-and-Mary-Admitted-Transfer-Students-2011/223000501048521#!/2011transfers))

fdc, unfortunately you will not know if you are admitted to the Mason School before you have to make a decision. Those admission decisions are made over the summer once we have final transcripts, credit evaluations and applications from enrolling transfers. First we make sure you’ve met the pre-reqs (the 6 classes and you have junior standing/54 credits). Then once we have that cohort of people it goes mostly by GPA with the highest GPAs being more likely to be admitted. You are certainly welcome to contact the Mason School of Business’ admission officers and get a sense of whether or not you might qualify for admission.

Will the housing applications be up at exactly midnight on May 10th? And will it be available on this page: wm.edu/transferhousing or will it be somewhere else? Again, thank you for answering my questions!

It will go live at 8:00 a.m. EST on May 10 and yes it will be available at wm.edu/transferhousing

I was wondering if those who were admitted could please post their stats? Just to see what the admitted pool was like.

annakate, hopefully some of the admitted transfers will respond to your post but keep in mind that stats do not tell the entire story. We consider a lot more than GPA including high school academics, extracurricular involvements, credit load, courses taken, etc. We encourage you to read our transfer committee and decisions blogs. They may help you understand how we make the decisions we make and everything that we consider.

Can we contact res life to make sure they recieved our transfer housing application?

Also, if we would like to take summer classes, how do we register and would we need to do anything specific like get our school ids?

Thanks WM admission read those a while back and were pretty helpful, got waitlisted and just trying to see some hard stats.

I was just wondering what time 50 people had already applied for transfer housing? I didn’t apply at exacly 8 am and I’m really nervous that I may not have gotten my application in time for guaranteed housing. Thanks!

transfer91992, you can likely contact Residence Life to see if they received your form. Just call them at 757-221-4314. As for summer classes, you can apply through the Registrar’s Office as a non-degree seeking student for summer classes ([William & Mary - Applying as a Non-Degree Seeking Concurrent High School Student](http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/applicationprocess/nondegreeseekingstudents/index.php)). Keep in mind you won’t have your transfer credits posted until July so be careful not to take classes for which you might receive credit already. You may want to contact Academic Advising for some guidance. It will be difficult for them to advise you without your transfer credits posted but they should be able to give some assistance.

cheeto01, remember, there is no “guaranteed housing” for transfers. It is possible that you were not one of the first people to respond and generally housing is awarded on a first-come first-serve basis. Residence Life will notify all students who submitted a housing request as to whether or not we can house them in late May/early June. You won’t be able to know any more before then.

Dear W & M Admission,

I was waitlisted for fall transfer 2011. I called the Office of the registrar and just found out that I was considered on Out of State Student. Ive lived in Va for 3 years, claim my taxes here and also am registered to vote In Va. However my drivers license is from Illinois and that is why I was denied In state residency. My only problem is that my instate application was pending the whole time, and no one notified me about this, and the lady who I spoke too about this at W & M apologized and said i shouldlve of been notified a long time ago but it somehow got lost in the system. I wouldve of taken care of this problem right away had I been notified about this on time. I am currently switching over my license to a Va one, and the lady I spoke too at the registrat said she would take care of everything once I send her my new license information. Who do I contact about this? I want admissions commitee to be aware of this when they go over the waitlisted applicants. It absolutely kills me to wonder if maybe I wouldve have been accepted if I would have been notified on time about this problem and granted in state residency. Thank you

YellowMarie, sorry to hear about the mix-up However, if you indicated on your application that you were applying as an in-state student, we would have considered you such during application review until we heard differently from the Registrar’s Office. Based on the information you provided in your post, it sounds like you were never officially denied in-state residency but were considered under review for VA residencey. If that’s the case, we would have reviewed your application as an IS student so this would not have impacted the decision we made.

Just in case, we would recommend you email Associate Dean Kim Van Deusen (kcbake@wm.edu) and let her know about your residency. She will add that email to your file so that it can be considered if we are able to admit any transfer students from the waitlist. If we have any questions regarding your domicile we can always contact the Registrar’s Office.

Is the freshman roommate questionnaire only for people transferring in as a freshman? That seems like a silly question, but I’m not sure if it’s literally a form meant for freshman, or just for first year students at W&M in general (since as transfers it is technically our first year). I’m coming in as a sophomore and it won’t allow me to fill out the application, so I just want to make sure I’m not going to miss something.

I’m withdrawing my acceptance today Definitely something that will be difficult as I also love William and Mary. UVa gave a lot more money, so I’m excited about going there. Hopefully someone gets off the wait list! Thank you so much W&M Admission! If there was an award for the best undergraduate admissions office, I’m sure that you guys would get it. Every single post or email I have sent you guys has been answered promptly. You all are amazing!

I didnt indicate on my application that I was applying as an instate student because I thought the actual seperate instate application supplement would suffice. I spoke to Mrs Lavender and she said I was reviewed as on OOS. I am going to email the Transfer Dean regardless. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hey, I’m applying as a transfer for next spring. 3.8 GPA for one semester at NVCC and I was homeschooled throughout highschool (with the exception of 10th grade) and graduated at 16, transcript sayd 4.1 w gpa and SAT not so great, I only did it once because I though when trasferring it doesn’t matter too much, but I got a 1840. What are my chances?
