William & Mary Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

vtechtransfer, your courses look pretty solid. We’d still recommend an English class (if you tested out of entry-level courses just go to the next level) and maybe a physical science but for a freshman student, the courses are solid.

soychai, the Common Application is a consortium of over 400 schools so colleges have some say in the questions the application asks but schools can’t individualize the application. Generally, colleges are more interested in the most recent information for transfers so we ask for junior and senior year ECs knowing that some students are applying as college freshmen (and believing that the ECs the student pursued in the junior and senior years of high school were likely the most important to them) as well as ECs in college.

Thank you for answering my questions! one last question, I wasnt sure if i was supposed to put this here or into a new thread. Is there a program/organization like PIRG at W&M? I could not find such on the W&M website. To go along with that, do new students get a good chance to start/create programs/organization on campus?

To our knowledge there isn’t a PIRG chapter on our campus. Did you check [William & Mary - Directory of Clubs and Organizations](http://www.wm.edu/offices/studentactivities/clubsandorganizations/directory/index.php?) If you didn’t find one there it likely doesn’t exist. Any student, whether new or not can start a club by working with Student Activities to build a constitution

In the first email confirming the receipt of the common app, it said we should expect an email saying the rest of our info had been processed. Just wondering when I should be expecting that email. Thanks for the info W&M admissions!

soychai, if you do not receive that second email within the next week, we’d urge you contact Vanessa Pryor (she processes transfer applications) to check on the status of your application as we should be close to completing our transfer applications in the coming days

Dear W&M, I also have not received that second email, so since we have not received that email, does it mean that they have not looked at our application yet?

Thank you and I just wanted to convey that this is my dream school… second time applying… and I will definitely go here if I’m accepted.

I haven’t received that email yet either! Now I’m a little concerned…

I sent an email to the admissions office, but should I contact Vanessa Pryor directly? What’s the best way to contact her?

“as we should be close to completing our transfer applications in the coming days .”

yikes! :)

hi guys, i havent received the second email yet either

We are still processing transfer applications. It takes us several weeks to collect all the documents sent and match them with the right file. The deadline was just a few short weeks ago so we are still in the midst of completing applications. In fact about 30% of our applications are still being processed. Do not worry. Just as with freshman applications, we review transfer applications as they become completed but those who are read early have no more chance of getting in than those who are read later on in the process…we promise.

Keep a look out for the second email letting you know your application was complete. We will also email you if we believe anything to be missing. Those emails are starting to be sent so check your in-boxes (spam/junk filters). If we’re missing anything, we’ll let you know what and all we ask is that you resubmit whatever is missing. No harm. No foul.

Thank you so much for answering our questions! I will keep my eye out for the email this week.

Yes. You may also want to check your spam/junk folders to see if it landed there. Oftentimes the second email was sent but students lose it in spam or junk and don’t see it.

W&M,

thanks for answering all of these questions…It has made a stressful month of waiting much more bearable :)

you said that you expect the transfer apps to be completed in the coming days…do you expect an early notification of decisions or is May 1 still the target?

thanks

Dear W&M,

I thank you so much for having such a great presence in this thread. I got the e-mail that my application was complete last week, and I’ve been subscribed to this thread since it first began.

I really do hope I get in, W&M is a great school and it would be an honor to attend.

I mean… May 1st isn’t all that far away, is it? :D

What’s the best number to contact W&M about transfer applications if you haven’t received that email? Should I just call the general admissions office?

Thanks for all your help! I hope my applications is ok. The not knowing is the worst part right now.

i received the first email February 24 and haven’t received the second email. Should I be worried?

Hello I am applying as a transfer to William and Mary for the Fall 2011… I was hoping you could give me some idea if I have a legitimate shot of being accepted?
First Semester: Courses listed below and my gpa was 3.79
Calculus 1
Intro to Engineering
Chemistry
Engineering Graphics
English 101

Second Semester: Courses listed below… my midterm gpa was a 3.3, however my final gpa will be at least a 3.5
Calculus 2
University Physics
Intro to Electrical Engineering
Major World Regions
Microeconomics

If it helps at all, my sister is currently at William and Mary and is a Junior

vtechtransfer, we anticipate emailing decisions the last week of April so right around May 1 is still the anticipated date.

umw and mcbaintrain, you can call our main number to check the status of your application but check your spam and junk folders first. Many students call saying they hadn’t received the second email when in fact, it had been sent.

Paaquan, we don’t chance those who have already applied simply because there is nothing you can do at this point to alter your application or improve your chances. We will release decisions in less than one month’s time so you’ll know the answer soon enough. If you’re not admitted, you are welcome to contact our transfer dean and inquire about what you might do to make yourself more competitive.

I think there might be some confusion about what email we’re supposed to receive (at least I was confused). I received this email:

"Your transfer application to the College of William & Mary is now complete and ready for review. This means that we have received your required application components: the Transfer Common Application, William & Mary Transfer Supplement, application fee or waiver, college transcript(s) and high school transcript.

Remember, mid-term grades are due March 28. Please FAX (757-221-1242) your mid-term grades using the Transfer Common Application’s mid-term report"

Are we supposed to receive another email or is this the last communication we should get unless something is wrong with our application?

Thanks again for your help!

I received that email at the end of February if that matters at all.
