My daughter is being recruited by Williams as an athlete. It’s a D3 school, so no athletic scholarships. Anyone out there have experience with Williams and their student athletes? Did they offer any kind of aid before a commitment was made? I think they want an “answer” from my daughter soon. But, we have not seen anything about her cost to attend. Do we commit and then later find out about financial aid?
Many D3 schools will do a financial aid pre-read as well as an admissions pre-read. If the NPC shows you are eligible for aid, then ask the coach if it is possible to get a financial aid pre-read, though they could just say that the NPC is generally accurate. Schools generally won’t “promise” any specific financial aid, but they can estimate likely outcomes based on the financial info provided by the family and past experience.
Presumably, the coach wants a recruit to commit, and then apply ED. Inadequate financial aid is the only way out of ED commitment, but for an athlete, that just leaves them scrambling for a roster spot elsewhere during ED2 round, with generally few recruiting options still open, depending on the school and sport. So getting clear, reliable information before making the decision to “commit” and apply ED1, is essential.
