Williams Class of 2025 -- Regular Decision

Waitlisted. I do not know why I am waitlisted for both Swarthmore and Williams, any pattern? I was admitted to Emory and WuSL and UM. Just do not know why waitlist for both LAC.

It is hard to say and I would not second guess, LACs just try to take each app and consider how the student will add to the community (the singing groups, the symphony, the theatre department), so its harder for them to fill these needs than a larger university that draws from a larger pool.

Feeling so lowww. Deferred by Harvard and now rejected by Williams. :sob::sob::sob:

Williams and Swarthmore represent two of the hardest colleges to get into in the country. If you have encountered a pattern, it simply may correspond roughly with general selectivity. You will note about a dozen LACs more selective than Emory and UM (Michigan?), actually:

Iā€™m so sorry. Going through same thingā€¦heā€™s not alone. A lot of kids in same boat this year.

Keep hearing from DSā€™s counselor that this is a strange year, but that doesnā€™t help. DS keeps getting waitlisted ā€“ UChicago, Swarthmore, Williamsā€¦

Thank you, it really stinks. Iā€™m trying so hard to stay positive, hopefully he/we get better news from 1 of the 3 remaining schools

I donā€™t think thereā€™s anything wrong with applicants who are WLā€™d. Itā€™s such an unprecedented year, and selective schools are being conservative with admits which means more WLs of students who may have been admitted in the past. Last year Williams accepted about 1250 students, which is a decent amount more than this year if the 1000 acceptances is accurate.
I suspect that there will be WL movement at many selective schools after Ivy Day and throughout the spring and summer. IIRC last year Williams went to their WL in May even though they had pushed back their decision date to 6/1.
I know this year is different, but last year I knew students who came off the WL at Middlebury (more than one), Swarthmore, Pomona, Bowdoin, Scripps, Bates, UMich, and Northwestern. Hang in there, everyone. Your students are amazing who have the misfortune of applying this year.

Agreed on all fronts, there will be WL movement, know of one last year who was WL at Williams and Stanford and was offered spots at both.

Rejection number 7 for me too.

The only pattern I see is that you are an exceptional student and very fortunate to have some phenomenal schools recognized that you would make a great addition to their first year class. Best wishes to you wherever you wind up!

Hang in there kiddo! Your day to celebrate is coming. Best wishes to you!

I got into Williams, but also got into Pomona. Iā€™ll probably turn down the former for the latter, so hopefully someone can get off the waitlist. Best of luck to all!

Does anyone here have information on the food? Do they have good options for people with food allergies? Or is it just a little refrigerator at the back of the room?

IIRC the head of dining services participated in one of the admitted students panels last spring. He had just started and was eager to accommodate dietary needs. Scroll down to the section on special diets on the dining services page https://dining.williams.edu/menus-nutrition/

Wow, that is great! Thank you so much for your help!

Does anyone know if Williams sends an acceptance packet/letter in the mail?

Pomona is great, but definitely attend the virtual previews event at Williams, they do a great job and you will learn a lot no matter where you end up.
