I find a couple aspects of this year’s ED acceptances to be very interesting…
First, “728 students applied, a 25 percent increase over last year and a record number for Early Decision.”
That’s a significant increase over years past. Is it because Williams dropped the requirement this year for SAT II tests? Or was it mostly due to “intensive efforts to extend our message of access and affordability to students of all socioeconomic backgrounds.” I wonder if they will also see a similar increase in RD applicants this year?
Second, “Of the 257 admitted students, 140 identify as men, 94 as women.”
We don’t know the gender ratio of the applicant pool, but that’s a fairly striking 60/40 gender split among admitted students. My guess is that their yield in RD must lean female and this is how they are managing to keep their 50/50 gender ratio. It’s interesting to see that there may be a significant advantage for male applicants, at least for ED.
@schoolview That is what I think too. They accept a lot of males in the ED round because they know that their yield percentage for male RD acceptances will be pretty low.
