@andyarrgz Williams’s acceptance rate hasn’t been 22% in a while. Last year it was 14.6%, and in previous years it was usually stable around 17-18%. Going to 12% does mean a considerable drop, though. Putting it another way, Williams got 1000 more applications this year than just the year before.

My condolences to both of you and everyone else that didn’t get in. If your parents give you a hard time, don’t take it personally. And maybe share with them some information I have been able to dig up. These persistently falling acceptance rates are nearly totally due to a growing influx of international students. Applying to elite schools is NOT like it was 30 or even 20 years ago. Hell, it isn’t the same as it was 10 years ago! You two may very well have been accepted if you lived in your parents’ time. You may have been accepted if you were applying 10 years ago. One example I can share with you is MIT. I did a correlation between MIT’s acceptance rate and the number of international students plus the children of the previous generation of international students which were undergraduates in the United States from 2004 to 2014. The correlation was 99.8%.
@amelia829 not exactly… i got deferred from dartmouth ed and got denied at williams. there are a lot of variables involved

Waitlisted, I really don’t know how to feel, but I have a friend over there and they were super excited that I applied. I hope things will turn up for me with my next schools.

@SouvlakiHotelFoxtrot thanks for providing the admissions data. Williams admitted 258 applicants ED, so there should be about 300 matriculation spots for the 900 RD admits. In essence the admissions department is projecting about a 33% matriculation rate among RD admits. Last Year Williams admitted 1250 applicants altogether and took no one from the wait list. So if you are on the wait list this year, you may have a chance of getting in. Best of luck to all.
