Williams College Theatre Major

OMG I GOT INTO WILLIAMS WITH A GREAT FA PACKAGE FOR REGULAR ROUND! I’m unbelievably happy but at the same time, I was wondering if you guys could give me some info on Williams theater program! I know that they host the Williamstown Theatre Festival and has the AWESOME '62 Center but I’ve seen reviews that said that the extracurricular theater is not so active(in fact, Caps and Bells is said to be the only theatre troupe). I was hoping to get to know more about curricular and extracurricular theater productions, musical theater opportunities, and perhaps study abroad programs related to theater, etc.

Congratulations! The Theatre department is highly regarded and the hands on teaching approach has trained generations of actors and prominent directors and writers. Theatre 101 is one of the most popular courses and draws a wide range of students. The best thing is that the department is well integrated into the curricular and social life on campus whereas at other schools the theatre department is more isolated.

Congratulations!

Theatre is active at Williams. When we ask, “What are you doing this weekend?” we have often heard that our son is attending theatre productions his friends are in.

It is easy to get involved quickly as a freshman in any organizations.

Why don’t you call the theatre department, and/or a student organization like Cap and Bells, to inquire about the available opportunities?

It is a small college, so a smaller number of organizations can accommodate all the interested students than would be needed at a large university… although students may always propose a new group if a need is not met within existing groups.
