Williams Previews

Hello there. I just have a few questions regarding the Previews that Williams will be holding on the 19th and 20th.

How will families be split up overnight?

It is required to stay overnight or participate in all of the events?

What kinds of courses are usually available to sit in on?

Where do parents go during "student events" and vice versa?

How would a regular visit compare to this? (I actually do have something very important happening at the same time, so I might have to opt for a regular visit.)

How was your experience? :)

On a side note...am I more likely to receive the dorm of my choice (singles vs doubles) if I accept earlier?

Is this for students that have already been accepted?

I believe this is for all accepted students. Expected number of students to show up is 350+. Plus I don’t see why they would limit it to just ED and EW.

It’s for all students who have been accepted, so including the rest of the RD acceptances.

1) Students are assigned to a host who is a current frosh and families would stay at a local hotel (or, you can stay with your family, as long as you tell you host so she doesn’t think that she lost you).
2) Nothing is mandatory. You could wander around campus the entire time if you wanted to.
3) Courses depend on which professors have room and are willing to have prefrosh sit in on their classes. It’s an assortment of almost all the majors. You’ll get a list when you arrive on campus.
4) I think there is a separate list of events for parents, like a panel with the president and meetings with the dean and students and profs etc etc.
5) It’s great to go and meet people who might also be coming so you can start making friends! I sat in on a class with a few other students and they all ended up coming here, so I already knew a couple people on my first day. Also, there are more organized events that let you peek at student life on campus (Purple Key Fair where all the clubs set up booths and info, Jamboree where different performance groups perform).
6) I liked Previews, other than the fact it was on a Monday night. I would help to visit on a Friday or Saturday to see the weekend night scene. Aside form this, it was a great experience.

To your last question: I wouldn’t imagine you do… the housing forms all get sent to all matriculating students at the same time, so unless you were late in submitting the housing forms, there shouldn’t be any difference in how housing is picked.
