hey! i'm a senior who is seriously considering williams, but its reputation for being filled with white prep school snobs is worrying me a bit, as an asian.

is this true? please be honest, because i already love williams so you dont need to sugarcoat anything. i just want to know if its a good fit.

I'm an Asian male who recently graduated from Williams, so I think I have some perspective on this. To be sure, Williams does have its fair share of white prep schoolers, but that doesn't mean that they're necessarily snobs, per se. I was friends with a good number of prep schoolers, most of them very humble and down to earth. To be sure, there are some students who tend to associate only with other students like them (i.e. wealthy, privileged WASPs), but they are surely a minority.

If you're outgoing enough and willing to put yourself out there, it's not difficult to make friends and float amongst different circles of friends. Personally, I had a good core of friends throughout my four years (mostly WASP or Jewish), but was also close with my friends in my a cappella group and participated regularly in Asian student group activities (even served as board secretary one year).

These so-called "white prep school snobs" fill the halls of all of our nation's best colleges and universities. It's a reality that you'll have to deal with it if you want to succeed socially in college and in the real world. WASPs are people too.

I haven't met anyone at Williams who I would really consider snobby. There are certainly some abrasive personalities here, but I think people here are generally happy to accept people who don't fit the wealthy, privileged WASP mold.

I'm a middle-class half-Asian sophomore, for the record.
