Hi, I am a recruit for the golf team at Williams and I am curious regarding the chances I have of getting accepted. I understand that Williams is a D3 school and that acceptance is not always given to sports recruits. When I talked to the coach, he said that he only recruited two players (including me) and has never had a recruit rejected from admissions. Although he said that admissions said that I was competitive enough to compete in their pool of admissions, I am still unsure of the chances I have of getting in.
To be completely honest my academic profile is not strong enough to get me into Williams without sports. My ACT score is a 33 super scored and my GPA weighted is 3.97. I have taken around 7 AP classes but some have not gone as well as others. The one thing I believe I have confidence in is my service to the community as well as my extra curriculum activities. Please let me now what you think!
I think what the coach is saying is right on and I would be very surprised if there were any problems with you getting in. 33 seems to be the magic number for ED sports recruits at Williams. 32 can work but requires the coaches “full support”.
We went through this last year with my son (as swimmer). He committed early, applied ED, and was accepted as expected. No worries. Your numbers are solid, and you’ve got full support from your coach. You’ll be fine. Prepare for a “plan B” to ease your mind, but you won’t need it.
My daughter was one of only 5 recruits this year for her sport, out of about 150 that went to their ID camps. She wanted to do RD but the coach would only give support for ED. It was a really tough decision to make her choice so early and not wait and see what other schools accepted her. She ended up getting accepted to WC and according to their rules had to withdraw all other applications, which she did. She is very happy with going to WC starting this August but will always wonder what the other schools would of accepted her or not.
