Williams v Bowdoin?

Williams v Bowdoin?

For premed....

Gukarama:
Congrats! Both are great colleges so you really cant go wrong (unless you choose Bowdoin over Williams...hehe..kidding).

Basically it comes down to your personal preference. Williams is more in the middle of nowhere than Bowdoin. Brunswick is a colder place than Williamstown (i think). Bowdoin has a reputation of being extremely strong in sciences ..but then again, Williams is also extremely strong in sciences.

Williams may be a tad more successful feeder school to med programs than Bowdoin. And Williams is a bit more prestigious and selective. If you believe in rankings, then you should know that Williams is ranked no 5 in US as a feeder school (Bowdoin is no 19) and Williams is ranked higher than Bowdoin in the US news ranking.

If you love food, then Bowdoin is the place for you. I have heard that the food there is out of the world!(they serve amazing sushi)

Since i am an Eph, i will be biased towards Williams. The choice is upto you to make at the end of the day.

Best of Luck:)

PS- Ugh! Screw my lame attempt to be neutral. Choose Williams. It's the best school in the world:D

a bit off topic, but...
i got into williams, but was waitlisted at bowdoin. i found that a bit curious. perhaps the fact that i'm an international had something to do with it?

Or maybe you are a skiing star.

Noxiou, where do you find the ranking of the feeder schools?

The Wall Street Journal came out with a list of schools with ranks based on the percentage of applicants from the school that received acceptance into top law, business, or medical schools (what those schools were exactly aren't specified, but think Harvard Business, Yale Law, etc.). Williams was #5.

Thank you. I find the article:

I chose williams!!!

congratulations!

Incidentally, I've heard that there is a loose historical connection between Williams and Bowdoin.

Harvard was established in 1636, and for more than 150 years held a strict monopoly on higher education in both Massachusetts and Maine (Maine was governed as part of Massachusetts until 1820, when it became a separate state). Harvard used its political clout to squash any attempts to establish new colleges.

The story is that in the 1790s, some state legislators from western Mass. got smart, and cut a deal with their counterparts from Maine: "you vote for a new college in my region, and I'll vote for a new one in yours". By joining forces, they had enough votes in the Massachusetts Assembly to break the Harvard monopoly with two new colleges. Williams was chartered in 1793, followed by Bowdoin in 1794.
