Williams v Yale

so read that there is a lot of cross admittance between yale and williams and wanted to know why people choose williams (which wins less)?

why would you choose yale?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/698197-what-some-common-cross-admit-pairs-who-generally-ends-up-winning.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/698197-what-some-common-cross-admit-pairs-who-generally-ends-up-winning.html</a></p>

Can anyone compare williams and yale math, econ, and science (esp physics)?

I would think that most who have applied to an Ivy would choose it over a LAC. My son chose Williams, and I know of another young woman who did, but most would be drawn to the reputation and excitement of an Ivy. Nothing wrong with that.

I would think this would be even truer of HYP.

prestige
cuz we all know Williams is America’s best kept secret.

Williams actually does very well against middle tier ivies such as columbia, dartmouth, and brown, probably getting around half of the cross admits.
Against HYP, though, it only yields around 15%, mainly because of the general perception of prestige.
Yale offers breadth in its course offerings while suffering from slightly larger classes compared to williams.

what do people think about the style of education between the two schools? i think i understand williams’ more (tough courses by nurturing professors and some pretty bad grade deflation) than yale’s. I have heard mixed remarks on how competitive williams’ students are.

I do not know how nurturing yale is, but I have heard from friends that Yale is great because there is so little (or none depending who you ask) competition between students and the is a decent amount of grade inflation.

to people who went/are going to williams, when did you feel that you really “clicked” with a professor and how many would you say you had a really good relationship with?

Williams struggles a bit with grade inflation, not deflation. I can’t seem to find the link at the moment, but I know that Williams’ freshman GPA is listed at 3.3, which is certainly comfortable.
