Willing to answer questions about film school

hey everyone! I’m in Florida and I’m aspiring to go to FSU. Does anybody have any information on their film school? I’ve heard great things yet want to know if any of you had something to share! thanks :)

Is it better to go to film school or just enroll in a college like LACC and try to get an internship or PA job instead of wasting four years in film school?

Your question is so open-ended that it’s really not possible to give an answer. What do you want to do with film? Do you want to direct? manage sets? do visual effects? sound design? art direction? or any one of a thousand other jobs?

The reason for undergrad film school is many-fold:

To help you find what your real passion is. So many people start school wanting to direct films, but find that they fall in love with other jobs related to the making of films.

To teach you the technology that you’ll need to deal with: cameras, lights, sound mixing, film editing, business aspects of filmmaking, etc, etc, etc…

To help you make films. You’ll have access to people, equipment, and critical evaluation that you won’t get elsewhere.

Opportunity for internships. The schools can help place you into the internships you’re looking for.

Contacts. Not only through the internships, but as your friends and colleagues become employed in the industry, that could be your “in” as well.

Whether 4 years in a film school is a waste or not depends on you and whether you can use a film school for what it can give you, and take advantage of all of the opportunities you can.
