Windows 7

The MacBook Pro starts at $1,999, so clearly from a price standpoint, it’s an unfair comparison. However, the older MBP models are notorious for running at very high temperatures. They’re cool to look at but not cool to the touch. So, the point I wanted to make was an older-gen MBP is already really hot, but my suitemate’s Toshiba is even hotter.

MBPs aren’t too loud, but his Toshiba was loud to the point where it was comical. The loudness of his fans would steadily increase, peak, decrease, and then repeat (e.g. whirr, whiRR, WHIRR, WHirr, whirr). I’d like to think that you wouldn’t have his problems if you bought a Toshiba near the upper limit of your budget. I’m just not sure how much better a $600 one is.

whats wrong with toshiba’s? I have one and it runs great.

No, I didn’t say there was something wrong with Toshibas in general. I advised against a budget Toshiba given my suitemate’s experience and said that I didn’t believe a ~$600 would be much better.

I would normally recommend this too, but if you’ve never had experience installing OS’s, then I would avoid partitions. Haha I screwed my computer over pretty badly when I first tried it, but maybe I was just dumb

…true true.

I am finding the Windows 7 RC to be stable and worth installing. Vista performs poorly. If I had to have a laptop today, I would look for one with Windows XP.
