<p>I would recommend Windows Professional as Vista continues to have some patches it needs to fix. I'd get Vista after the second service pack is released.</p>
<p>I'd say stick with XP for now, Vista is a nightmare so far.</p>

<p>Vista is not compatible with all software & hardware (hardware addons, basically) yet - The company I'm interning at has a few Vista computers, and are not yet compatible with everything. Patches have been coming out for programs, and nearly everything is working now, but some specific programs have been a real pain. If the school says Vista, I'm guessing everything they need in terms of programs works with it.</p>
<p>Also, Vista is pretty much a bloated operating system that requires more memory and HD space without providing much advantage to the consumer.</p>
