Whats the difference between these two? Which would be better for gaming?

They're same for games. Pro has fancy networking stuff that you shouldn't need (it's mostly for big businesses)

They are about equal for gaming, the difference is meaningless (unless perhaps in some very rare local network scenario)

Pretty much, if you don't know the difference between the two already, you should be getting XP Home.

I've heard that XP Pro was faster and had more options?

If you are deciding on a system that you will use on a college or university network, check with your school's computer network department to see what their specific requirements are. More and more schools are requiring that students use XP PRO. For most home users, it doesn't matter which version is chosen.

xp Pro is certainly not faster, and games are not affected by which version of Windows XP you're using. But do check if your school requires Pro; if it doesn't, then you'll be fine with home.

XP Pro is better for networking... exactly how, I'm not sure.

I know a lot of schools require XP if you want to connect to their network (basically if you want to have net access). There are certain safety features (I THINK) that make it harder to hack into your computer from another computer on the network, which could deffinetly be an issue in college. That's just what I've heard so I could be wrong, but I don't think I am

There isn't a lot of difference between the two operating systems, but here is a summaryof the features that are better in XP Pro: better security features, remote desktop support, dual-processor support, integrated automatic system recovery and fax, and better support for multiple user profiles.

Most schools recommend Pro because of the obvious security differences and remote desktop support could come in handy in certain situations.

Go here to see Microsoft's own comparison of the two: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/choosing2.mspx

There are additional security features on Pro; it is the better system when you are part of a network where you want people to be able share things but also have centralized administrative control and the ability to install software on numerous computers from a centralized location; it also allows you to set up the computer so you can access it from another computer and actually call up your desktop and all your files onto the second computer.

Go with XP Pro if you're buying a new computer, but if you already have a system with XP Home, don't buy pro, it ain't worth it (unless ofcourse your school requires it)
