I just installed Windows XP on my originally Windows ME comp. When I shut down, it requires a manual shut down... it says on the screen, "windows logged off, you may now safely turn off your computer" or something like that. How do I make it shut down automatically?

how?!?!?!?!

windows ME can not be upgraded to windows XP. you have to do a fresh (clean) install of windows XP.

yes because if you do a clean install of windows xp it automatically shuts off

oh yeah, i meant clean install. but for some reason, it still requires a manual shut down

Was your computer designed for Windows XP, or Windows ME?

it was designed for windows ME.

okay, i don't need help anymore. i asked some comp sci student... all i needed to do was control panel>power mangement>apm and enable apm!

thanks anyways
