Windsor Hall

Does anyone know anything about these "luxury dorms"?

Windsor Hall UF Housing Option| Gainesville FL | University of Florida Dorms

I guess for Gainesville they would be considered "luxury"
Pros:
Relativelly close to the East side of campus within walking/biking distance.
Fairly new construction. Lobies, hallways & rooms nice.
All doors secured with swipe card system.
Cons:
Not cheap.
Have to pay extra for parking.
A/C system marginal.
Small pool & deck.
Backs up to fringe neighborhood.
Don't be suprised to see bums constantly at the dumpsters.
If you share a room it will be tight.
Walls a little on the thin side however not the worst.
Expect to get hosed by repair/cleanning charges when you move out.

I wouldn't really consider this a true dorm; it's more of an in between if you're not "ready" to pay bills and such. Assuming it's your first year though that might be a good option though I don't know if it would be the same social experience you want out of a first year in a dorm, but having your own room would be worth it. Sounds pretty expensive though

I toured them when I visited UF. They are not your typical dorm....new and quite nice....pretty pool area and a workout room. Close to sorority houses. I don't think the doubles are much more expensive than on campus dorms, but singles are. I understand they fill up quickly though.

All the dorms at Windsor are "luxury" dorms.

Basically, they're just bigger, better (much cleaner, less prison-like) rooms than you'd find anywhere on campus except for maybe Springs. The social environment is more or less identical to on-campus dorms as 95% of the people there are freshman. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat especially since it's too late to apply for dorms.

Don't forget Ivy House (same company as Windsor) if anyone is a girl looking for a place! I'll be living there in the fall! It's a lot cheaper if you're like me and not sure of how your financial situation will be this coming year. After this year, we'll all be able to figure out how much we can and cannot afford. It's not the year for experiments if budget is tight. Feel it out and take the cheaper route for now. =]

Another nice thing about Windsor (even though it costs you extra) is being able to have your car parked right where you live.
I noticed a lot of new apartments are being built in that area off 13th street. For anyone up there now...is it a safe area?
