One thing to consider. We tried a wine club a few years ago and a main reason we didn’t continue was difficulties with the deliveries - an adult signature was required. Maybe that’s not as much of an issue with so many people working from home. Also not sure if it was just a USPS thing or if it also applies to fedex, ups, etc.
I’m guessing @BunsenBurner that you are telling me I shouldn’t do what I really want to do…which is have wine delivered from someplace for several months. My goal was to have a gift that would be delivered over several months.
You can have wine delivered for several months directly from the vineyards. It doesn’t need to be a “club”.
The majority of wine clubs at wineries do not work that way. Usually, you get two or three shipments of limited varieties when the winery bottles their new releases. Hence the confusion in this thread.
What you are looking for is not a wine club. Sounds more like a company that does “wine of the month” shipment of a bottle or two. I guess you could be able to arrange this through a winery, too, if you call and ask.
It applies to FedEx and UPS (our wine gets shipped by these two). Adult signature required. It was a PITA in the past to redirect the shipments to their stores and then find a time to pick it up.
I know…but I don’t want to pick…and I don’t want to have to order every month. I want to do three months…pay upfront. Let the vendor I choose do the wine picking each month.
I guess you all don’t think that’s a good idea.
This couple will have other wines, I am sure. I thought a delivery of something unexpected would be fun for a young 20 something couple to get. Clearly, I would not be doing this for seasoned wine drinkers like many on this thread.
I will need to check on the shipping/delivery. I think one of these folks works from home now. Need to check that.
This has always intrigued me - the TCM wine club https://shop.tcmwineclub.com/jsp/offer/recr/us/law/offer_temp6.jsp?offerId=101900076&promoCode=AC5W006&utm_campaign=rc_AC5W006&utm_medium=Web_SearchEngine&offer=fy22/q3/tcm/reds12&gclid=CjwKCAjwoduRBhA4EiwACL5RP4Lbgem5aZWi5q5pHc70TBBC2QEJRiI105YEL1ZbRXj2eQZ_rQTVExoCNv8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#/
Total Wine does delivery, so you may want to consider them. I don’t know if they deliver to where you want to ship, but it’s worth checking.
We received a present of 6 bottles from Wine.com, and they were nice wines.
Also, for every shipment, you’re having to pay for packing and shipping, so I’d consider a “mixed case” or however much you want to send, and do it all at once - they can drink it over however many months they want.
If you call the 800 number, I’m pretty sure they will make suggestions for you.
Thank you. I’m starting to think that sending a mixed case from someplace might be the best plan. All at once. Even though that’s not really what I initially wanted to do.
I think this is a great choice.
(We once were given a monthly wine duo gift, and Mr. got tired of going to FedEx to pick it up. The wine was so-so, too. There is a reason some wine ends up at these services.)
We tried these wines and ordered a Advent Calendar with 25 wines this past December. They are all mini bottles enough for 2 glasses. You can order from several different collections, have it sent with an additional gift card. If they find some wines they like, they can order them separately. Not sure if you they would be interested in the mini bottle size but we found several wines we really enjoyed. They also offer virtual wine tastings and you even arrange for a private virtual wine tasing.
Just another suggestion: Curated Flights – In Good Taste
That might be fun! I could send four different sets.
I’ve bookmarked a lot of these suggestions.
We belong to some wine clubs that come directly from the winery. Imagery is one you might consider because they grow interesting wines, not just the usual California ones, they have unique artist labels and I believe they are organic.
We really like Chacewater in Northern California and have given their wine club mailings as gifts, you can do just one or a few different times. Their Zin is really good & they also do olive oils etc.
Nice to see another JW fan! Always a stop when we go down to the gorge.
If there’s a good wine shop in your area, you might check to see if they have a wine club/subscription service. One near us does and has choices for wine regions with various prices to go along.
We belong to a couple of winery clubs with local pickips 2-4 times per year, and one where we visit out of state to pick up the allotments. Fun, but not something I’d sign another person up for unless I knew they liked that producer.
That sounds like me. I pick wines by the pretty labels (I’m not a wine drinker). Can you give me a name?
