This past year, two of my partners and I were able to win first place at the DECA International Career and Development Conference (ICDC) in one of the entrepreneur events. Does anyone know how much weight this actually holds in college admissions? For example, could it be the business equivalent to, say, Science Fair? This is strictly to satisfy my own curiosity.

For some perspective, I am/will be applying to Yale, Rice, University of Chicago, and a couple of other competitive schools.

It’s a pretty big deal. I’m not striving for any colleges as prestigious as you, but winning ICDC is fairly impressive. It helps alot when trying to get admitted into the actual business school. It’s hard to find a “business extracurricular” as impressive as winning ICDC.

DECA ICDC’s a really big deal in terms of business extracurriculars. It’s probably the equivalent to around a national-ish level science fair or national Science Olympiad just because science competitions have more people involved so the competition is higher. However, don’t get me wrong. The ICDC IS highly competitive, and winning the ICDC is a LOT of work too. I just started doing DECA this year, and it’s a goal of mine to place in the ICDC. I’m doing Principles of Business Management and Administration since it’s my first year.

@MrHopp Any tips, maybe? I’d be extremely grateful for any advice you have to give. :)
