Winter 2012 Transfer Thread

@anthony

You really can’t assume these things… I got my denial within a month, however I would certainly like to believe I am not a “really weak applicant”. Moreover, in my experience with umich, it often isn’t a question of being a strong applicant. Rather, it is a lot of luck and timing

I should add a consensus to that statement… Obviously being a strong applicant will be in your best interest. However, that is not the ONLY deciding factor in an application. Again, much of it will boil down to luck and availability

Oh yeah i know i need a 3.6 to increase my chances but I have like tons of letters of rec, good ECS (varsity cheerleader and stuff) along with a really interesting story. My essays were just downright awesome, not to sound cocky at all :wink: haha and i’ll hopefully be close to that by the end of this semester, i’m taking like 17 credits and working about 25 hours aw weeek and stuff lol. btw i know of someone who was accepted for the winter semester with a 3.2… I found that rather interesting…and thanks for the good luck! and it’s okay, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right?! best thing i can have is a positive attitude through all of this! good luck to you guys ! i know it’s easier to get in for the Spring semester so that’s what I’m hoping for ! :slight_smile: let me know all of your results ! i’m excited for all of you!!

Sneaks in Just got an acceptance e-mail this morning!

Applied: Oct 1
HS (In HK; non-GPA): Among the worst; got no acceptance from any programs
CC GPA: 3.94/4.00

I found this acceptance fast and unexpected - and it’s the first college acceptance notification in my life! I’m so glad!
Good luck to y’all!

Congratulations wykjohn! That feeling must be awesome.

@wyk…Congratulations! can I ask what your intended major is?

Congrats John!

Thanks and fingers crossed for you guys!
@abrknight: My intended major is communication but it comes off on WA as LSA Declared.:confused: Just got to check with them today.
Also, will I enter UM with my current GPA?

Congrats john!! In regard to GPA, I believe your credits just transfer and not the GPA itself.

@wyk you GPA will only transfer if you attended UM-Dearborn or Flint. Otherwise only your credits will transfer. My major on WA is also listed as undeclared but I’m a Econ Major, does anyone know if I just forgot to fill it on my app or is it that way for everyone?

@yellowphenom, I’m an Econ major as well and it’s the same for me. They just call you undeclared I think.

My WA lists undeclared as well. I think they all will until your first meeting with an adviser, but I can’t be sure.

Does anyone have friends or heard of other acceptances outside of this website?? It doesn’t seem like they’re coming in batches to the extent they did last year(consecutive waves of acceptance on Fridays).

I think I may call today to see if I can pry any information from them. Go Blue

hi just wondering, what is everyone applying here as? sophomore or junior?

Accepted!!! “Congratulations! You have been admitted to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts!”

Wow, I’m still in shock, I woke up at 1228 this morning with my laptop sitting on my stomach and forced myself to check one more time and it was there!

Still, I feel for those who are still waiting. I know it creates a ton of anxiety, but hang in there. I’m hopeful that that you all find great news today, or soon after! Go Blue.

@abrknight: GO BLUE! That surely feels great. Mind if I ask what major you are in?
@dbomb16: As a junior. I guess a number of us would do the same.
Looking forward to the others’ good news!

@John: I listed general biology as my number one interest and neuroscience as number two.
@dbomb: I’ll be transferring in 50 sem hours once it’s said and done, so I officially I will transfer in as a sophomore.

@abrknight, congratulations! I’m happy for you, I could see you really cared. Must be awesome!

Thanks a lot Anthony. I know you’ll be sharing the good news with us soon as well!

FYI, probably totally unrelated to the timing, but I called my adviser yesterday (the one assigned by name).

I just kind of nosed around and asked when the LATEST I might get a decision was and she said 4-6 weeks from Oct. 1 Then I got the acceptance less than 12 hours later. Might not hurt to just check in, be polite, and as well spoken as possible and see if you can find anything out…or at least give him/her a good personal impression to go with the application.

Like I said, probably wouldn’t have mattered but you never know. I don’t think it hurt.

@abrknight

Yeah there is definitely something to that… I called and was told it would take 6-8 weeks. I went in for a walk in appointment two weeks in and had my decision a day later

So should be call the Undergraduate Admissions Office? Or the actual advisor in charge of your application? If so, where do you find out who your advisor is?
