This is a re-post of travelgirl, who submitted the exact same post last year (2011 Winter transfers) so credit all goes to her!

Anyway, it's almost November and according to last year's post, we should be hearing back from UW around Nov 10th-15th ish. Let's keep each other updated on this thread!

Just an FYI, I'm a transfer from BC, and I submitted my application on Aug 27th. My intended major is Communications.

I’m also waiting for my reply. I’m technically a transfer from NSCC, though I’m currently taking a class at Shoreline. My intended major is International Studies.

I go to Whatcom CC. Psych major. I almost kinda hope they reject me honestly so that I can take a bunch of classes at Whatcom in the next couple of quarters towards a minor in chemistry, which will be way more difficult, basically impossible, for me to pull off if I get into UW for January. I’m almost positive I will get in though. I only ever got a grade that wasn’t an A once (in possibly the easiest class I’ve ever taken, English 101, which really makes me a sad panda). I’ll have 93 credits by the end of this quarter. At least I won’t be in Bellingham anymore, so that’s a plus.

SRL184 - only 90 credits will transfer to the UW (100 level or above). So you will lose some of your 93 credits (unless at least one of the classes isn’t college level)

Ditto goes for your plan to minor in chemistry - if you decide to take the additional credits at your CC…you will lose some of your credit’s once you do decide to transfer to uw, due to the 90 credit limit

yeah seriously. they make us apply fairly early and leave us hanging for kind of a long time considering it’s winter, so at this point i’m more concerned about getting the classes i need and finding an apartment on such short notice than i am about whether or not i am admitted per se. not getting admitted would be less of a hassle in a way than being one of the last ones to hear back and i have enough on my mind taking 20 credits this quarter.

20 credits actually isn’t that different from 15. It doesn’t feel that much different at all – bearing in mind I don’t have a job. I would rather have 20 credits and no job than 10 credits and a job. I plan my schedule very carefully and make sure I don’t take more than a couple hard things at once. So I mean two kinda hard classes plus two super easy classes is easy in community college. It’ll prob be different at UW though.

Uh my last comment totally doesn’t make sense due to the stupid phone auto correction… I’m doing the opposite of what you’re doing. I’ve been taking 10 credits at a time while working part-time, but thinking about going full time once I get in. I heard that the course load is pretty intense (but it all depends on what class you take) compared to CC’s, so hopefully I can manage to do both.

taking 20 credits at a community college is easy, at UW…not so much

I took 20 credits per quarter…every quarter at SCCC (even summer) and ended up with a 3.92 gpa with my AA

At UW I only take 15 credits per quarter…and my UW gpa is 3.85 (that is not combined with the cc credits)

Don’t think about doing 20 at UW. (And anyways, the system won’t let you sign up for that many credits until period 3 …that’s the day classes start), so not much left…plus alot of running around

yeah i’m not thinking about it. the thing is i am living off of my GI Bill stipend which makes my life incredibly simple. i MAY wind up trying it at some point but def not at first.

our CC GPA’s were pretty much the same. i was expecting my UW to slip to about a 3.85 myself. i’ll be fine for the graduate school as long as it never gets any lower than that. i want to go to grad school at UW bc it’s half price for combat veterans and i hate moving. hopefully i can find a cat-friendly studio in the U-district and live in it for the next 5 or so years.

This might sound like a stupid question, but I’m just curious… Do you have to have a higher GPA (say, 3.8 and above) to enter UW grad school? I’m not thinking about getting MA as of now, but just in case I change my mind. Or does it all depend on which department you’re going for?
