Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

@cn9a51: I called U-M in order to make sure my applications are completed with my email attachment printed down added to my file, and they did say “Yep, you are in a good shape.”

I am not sure whethe earlier application could be an advantage.

It’s just the School of Nursing… and I’m guessing not a lot of people know :(

@Dreamingowl it says on the website that earlier is an advantage.

@Matisyahu: Thanks I got it.

Hey I have another question about transferring from the same school, suppose there are other transfer applicants applying for U-M and who are from the same college as mine, would U-M view each applicant saparately or they would pick just very few students from each school disregarding how diverse they actually are?

@Dreamingowl - I’m not sure about that. All we know is that there is a certain GPA and SAT that hints at possible acceptance - shown in page 1.

@Matisyahu: Thanks! I just saw that. So U-M did take a look at the school where you applied from? I saw someone from Top 20 LAC with GPA 3.4 was also accepted. My college was Top 40, but academic rigor Top 5

@Dreamingowl since you have over 60 credits, I think you will be okay. Although the average GPA 3.75, you’re coming from a top 40 LAC. I don’t think they count rigor but they will count the ranking.

What kind of job do you want to have?

@Matisyahu: I was thinking about environmental science major, but my college’s Chemistry Seminar ruined all of my plan about science and now I do not even dare to tough science in my college again. About social science, I applied communication studies in U-M since I am hoping to apply graduate school of Marketing later. I would talk about this with academic advisor in U-M if I was lucky to get in.

@Dreamingowl Yeah that was what I was saying about the combining GPA at U-M. Graduate schools look at all our GPA, and I was wondering if U-M might hurt my GPA. Since you’re from a top 5 rigor school, I’m sure you won’t have any problems at U-M.

@Matisyahu: Thank you. I don’t know if I would still meet some rigorous professors. The most problem I am concerned is just whether I would BE ABLE To get in if all U-M mostly cares is GPA disregarding anything else. Well I am now just waiting and praying.

@Dreamingowl I think you’ll be fine.

Monday could be the big day everyone!

@Matisyahu: Thank you very much! I wish we all would get in!

Does anyone know if U-M would pick a limiting population of transfer students from a particular school?

I highly doubt that is taken into consideration.

I hope Monday is the day Albo. I can’t keep checking WA as much as I am. Tomorrow, I’m going to U of M to visit friends for the weekend. Should I go to the admissions office and ask them about my app? I’ve already called them this week, and they don’t seem to have any new information to tell me. Do you guys think seeing my actual admissions counsellor would help?

Hey I was there last weekend to visit my friends! But I didn’t go to admissions though.

I think seeing your actual counselor would help you (and us) get more information on when decisions are coming out. Now that I think of it, admissions is closed on weekends anyways.

Do anyone have an approximation about how many students would be notified on each day maybe from next week?

So there was this young man, he wanted to make a lot of money so he went to this guru right.

…and told him, “I want to be on the same level that you’re on.”
The guru told him, “If you want to be on the same level I’m on, I’ll meet you tomorrow at the beach.”
