Winter 2014 Transfer Thread

chickenfried - the unit of measurement is not important – what is important is that your coursework quantifies you as being near or at junior-level status upon matriculation

artificiallyme - i highly doubt your high school record will even be taken into consideration past 45 credits. however, i say that not knowing much about the school of architecture. I’d venture to assume that there is some type of portfolio that must be submitted as part of your application, and that it is a major component of the evaluation?

Hello e130478, I know two first semester sophomores who got into LSA. I don’t think being sophomores would prevent you from getting admitted, though UM says it prefers juniors on the website.

I am a current first semester sophomore, however; I am ahead of most sophomores in credits. I have 36 completed after only my freshman year where most first year students would have 24-30. Also, I called umich about a month ago asking them questions regarding what “junior standing” really is. They told me once you’ve completed 55-60, you’re at junior standing. I will only be <1 credit away from being at 55.

I am sorry if I sound rude or anything. I just am so nervous and I am losing so much hope each day, but I’m trying my best to stay positive. I mean, honestly, with all of the information you know, what do you think my chances are? To me, it sounds like you’re trying to tell me my chances aren’t good…don’t be afraid to be honest with me.

Also, someone said they knew two sophomores who got in? How many credits did they have and what was their hs grades like?

No, that was not my intention at all. I was attempting to explain to you why you were rejected for the previous term. Being that you applied with only 36 credits, you were not a strong candidate for admittance, despite your strong academic performance.

With 54 credits and a 3.87 gpa, however, I would not doubt at all that you will be accepted for the upcoming term.

e130478 r u apply for winter and if so wut r ur stats?

Hey guys these are my stats, chance me :D.

College:
Gulf University of Science and Technology in Kuwait.
Credits completed: 24
GPA: 3.963
EC: I have been placed in the Dean’s list for all the semesters.
I have played at Arsenal’s soccer academy for two years.
I have done volunteering.
I am currently working in my family business.

High School:
I took IGCSE, and my school forced me to take Science subjects( I am applying for Economics to LSA). However, I got an A in Business studies and B in Mathematics.

I am not applying for any financial aid.

e130478, I’m sorry! I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to say! But I have not completed 54 credits. I have only completed 36 and I’m working on completing a total of 54 right now. Is that sill okay?

I Applied last year with only 16 credits completed, 31 pending, and I took a 5 credit course over ths summer

Umer94, your biggest problem would be number of credits. You have a fantastic gpa, but unless you did really well in hs, you may have to wait another semester or two! But don’t let my opinion/thoughts discourage you. good things do happen so keep having hope!

Hi Lulu32, first of all credit is NOT the only thing they consider okay. The rule about transfer is as long as you have a sophomore standing (complete first year in college), you are able to apply, which you didn’t and that explains a lot… Please don’t get confuse with all the junior priority stuff. Yes two of my friends got in as first semester sophomores from public and state universities. Umer94 I think you have a decent shot so does everyone on this thread. :D

Maggie, do you know what their high school GPA’s were? Or do you know how many credits they had when they transferred to umich? Honestly, I don’t know all that much about how the transfer admissions process works, BUT I have heard from a lot of people that if you really want to be admitted, you must have ~60 credits, which is why I am taking 18 credits currently to boost my completed credits to 54. I want nothing more than to be a wolverine, and I am doing all that I can to be admitted. But if you have your friends’ info, that would be really helpful for me! Were they OOS? Because I am in state. Idk if that makes a difference or not.

Also, you don’t have to have ~60 credits to be admitted if you did great in HS. Which is a whole other issue because I did absolutely awful. So…

Hello lulu32, one of the most important reasons they didn’t let you in last semester was that your were applying with only 16 credits. You have to have at least 24 (sophomore standing) in order to apply. Other than that, of course essays etc are key things. So don’t worry too much about the credits cause quality > quantity in any case.

Yes great HS records. OOS. LSA admitted.

They said it was pretty easy but thats what most kids who got in said lol Also I’m in New England and we use semester so we might calculate credits in dif ways…

Yeah it was much easier for them to get in than it is for me because they had good hs grades. And they are OOS which means they will be paying higher tuition. I’m in state  I just really hope I can get in. This wait is already killing me

And Maggie, you’re applying correct?

Hey yea I am. Just keep calm and enjoy studying and life in your current institution once you ve sent everything out. lol It won’t go wrong to stay positive. They said “what’s meant to be will always find its way,” right? :P

yes I believe they did! haha I’m trying my best to stay positive! I hope we can all find out very soon! When did you submit everything?

e120478 has no evidence of this bs he’s spewing… disregard him

yes this is correct @what maggiev said… who the f is this e120478 with 9 posts and a recently created account saying that, LOL
