@Aharris1105 the off campus apartments do come furnished, and the “rent” includes utilities. If I remember correctly, the twelve month apartments are Cedar Apartments Mercer Court, Nordheim Court, and Radford Court.
They do? If they are all academic year will we ne allowed to sign the lease? I’d rather live on campus for this year and make some friends before I go off campus because I don’t know anyone in Seattle
@hoping4uw0323 I’d rather live in a dorm than pay a monthly rent of $1000+ monthly on top of books, meals, and my phone bill. This will be my first time out on my own so I would like to transition into renting after making friends on campus that could one day be my roommate. Don’t dorms come with meal plans?
Same. exactly. It’s my first time out on my own too plus I will be coming home like every other weekend. I dont want to go out on my own and get an apartment and feel lonely. yeah all dorms come with meal plans
Thank you @Aharris1105! I hope I don’t get rejected because I have fewer than 90 credits
Also, has anyone heard back?
I haven’t heard back yet but my professor has me all worried now because he said people usually hear back by now because of class registration. He is an alumni of UW and a former professor there. I hope I didn’t get rejected and that the UW is just taking awhile.
I personally have no choice but to live off campus. I’d be moving from the east coast, and don’t have any plans to be traveling back and forth during breaks. I need to live in a place I can stay all through the holidays. It is going to be harder to make friends, but I’m hoping with orientation, and possibly joining a club/organization, that I’ll be okay. I think you can get a meal plan with living off campus.
@Aharris1105 I’m hoping that they’re just taking a long time to process the decisions. I don’t want to be rejected.
@aharris1105 I don’t think you should be worried about that because if we were rejected than at least someone wouldve heard back. As of now no has heard back from them we’re all in the same boat.
As a 2014 winter transfer, former undergraduate peer adviser, and current grad student, I know just how much the waiting sucks! I know they are a bit behind, but rest assured, you won’t miss out on registration. Winter transfer orientation begins around the 12th of December and ends at the very end of the month. You can’t register until you’ve attended a session. While they do try to hold on to class space for transfers, if they do fill up don’t fret: I have had great success using the notify UW tool. As far as housing is concerned, most transfers live off campus. However, if any of you have kids, we have great family housing! It’s good sized, close to campus, and really reasonably priced. I’ve been here three years and my kids love it! If you do want campus housing, however, Radford Court is open for students and non-students. They’re nice, but not furnished (or cheap). All that aside, good luck! For those stressing about no AA, lots of us (myself included) came in with less than 90 credits. Admissions are more concerned that you have an end goal and remain motivated to get your degree. If anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate to ask as I’m currently procrastinating completing a mountain of reading…
Hi, thank you so much for the information and insight on the UW admission process. It was very helpful. What major did you get accepted as?
I actually came in via general admission, with 80 credits and a 3.91 GPA. I declared my second quarter and completed degrees in History and the Comparative History of Ideas with a minor in American Indian Studies. By no means competitive majors, but the competitive majors aren’t as scary as you’d think. There are enough other programs that overlap people generally find a program that allows them to pursue their area of interest, even if it wasn’t their first choice.
@jsmith210 Thank you for posting this! I feel so much better about everything.
@Jsmith210 your post has reassured me a little more, so thank you!
@Jsmith210 I don’t think I can afford to live off campus by myself without a roommate and I really don’t feel comfortable or safe rooming with a complete stranger. Especially not knowing if I can trust them to pay their half of the rent.
I get where you’re coming from @Aharris1105, this area is extremely expensive and while there are areas at the periphery of Seattle that are cheaper, you have to factor in safety and commute. When I first started at UW, I was commuting from Kent, while driving my kids to a neighboring school district and taking classes five days per week–it was a nightmare! That said, there are sometimes houses in close proximity to the University that rent by the room to UW students which negates concerns of financially irresponsible roommates and rent payments, but still requires an adjustment to living with others. I guess the same can be said for dorms, too.
@Jsmith210 I was really hoping to get into Mercer Court if I get accepted to the UW because I like that I can have my own room.
I called the admission office yesturday and they told me they are (hopefully) going to mail out letters by end of this week or early next week. They are taking long because they are waiting for some departments to finalize their decisions.
Thank you so much for the information @girlgirl256. We will be hearing back soon now! Good luck everyone
@Girlygirl256 oh my goodness, thank you! I’m getting excited now
Hey guys, I’ve been a ghost follower for a while now. Just wondering if anybody’s transcript loaded yet? If we are supposed to get a letter by end of this week or early next week, shouldn’t any of our transcripts have loaded by now?
