Winter 2017 Transfer Thread

May I ask what major did you apply to?

I didn’t apply for a major since I don’t have all my prereqs done, so I am just applying for general admission, I plan on majoring in business.

That will be hard since you have a lot of credits. And for transfer students, you’re still able to apply for a major even you don’t finish all prereqs at the time you apply.

It will be hard because I have a lot of credits? Isn’t it actually good if a transfer student has an AA with 90 credits? At least that’s what people said to me, an AA with 90 credits is the standard.

It is hard because you apply for general admission. Because if you have 90+ credits, the UW wants you to apply for a department.
Keep in mind that it also depends on which majors. Some majors require to take classes at the UW such as Asian studies, Chinese… so so. Please double check with advisors to get more info.

I say it is hard but it doesn’t mean impossible. I know a guy who was from my CC. Got into UW but not the department ( he applied to Foster school). They say they wanted to see him to take 1 quarter at UW first.

I applied for WSU winter semester earlier this month. I also applied to CWU and EWU and received notice that I got into both of them for winter quarter - however I really want to go to WSU. Has anyone been notified of an admissions decision for WSU winter semester ? Are they usually pretty quick to give a decision ? I’m getting anxious because I would really like to know where I’m going haha! I’m a transfer that did two years of running start and then graduated this last June. I wasn’t planning on transferring yet, but I changed my major over the summer and now have no need to stay at CC. I have around 80 credits.

Hey guys!

Thinking this is the place to post considering that I am hoping to transfer to UW from CC

It’d be real nice if you could chance me!

Stats:
GPA: 4.0
Credits: 75
Extracurriculars:
Paid tech internship at local start up
Interned for Bellevue City Hall
SAT: 2200

My essay is good in my opinion, and hopefully it’ll be the thing that makes up for me not having my AA yet

I just submitted mine!

Could anyone rate my chances?
Overall gpa is 3.42, with last 45 credits being 4.0
Eagle scout, over 100 hours community service, and I work with at risk kids. I also think essay is good:)

No offense, but you guys are kinda making me feel like crap lol. I feel like I just wasted $70 on an application that they’re gonna completely ignore at first sight.

My GPA is only 3.4, and I have a little over 40 credits. Question…Does anyone know how to convert semester credits to the quarter credits that UW uses? You just multiply the credits by 1.5, right?

Anyways, I’m applying as an English major, but I also checked the box that indicated I would apply for the major only after I got admitted. I wrote an essay that I think is good enough. I tried to explain my personal growth and maturity after dealing with an illness, one that I didn’t realize until my freshman year of CC. I had to withdraw from 2 different math courses, mostly due to the stress of my illness. It’s not a life-threatening illness, but I think my essay does a good job of describing why it impacted my life so much. I tried to explain why UW would be a perfect fit for me. Ugh, I wish the app wasn’t so expensive, because I would feel a little bit better right now. Oh well  There’s Seattle U, right?

I think there are a few more factors that matter than just GPA, for example are you from an in state community college? I’ve done a lot of reading online and that seems to certainly help. For an OOS applicant, the mean GPA seems to hover around 3.7.

I think you definitely have a chance, especially because of your grade trend! Are you transferring in state?

I am transferring in state, from Bellevue college.

@redo123 then you definitely have a solid chance!

@psttt2020 I know what you mean. Like I’m seeing people who have extracurriculars. Which I don’t. The only thing I have going for me is joining the honor society. When I first talked to the UW about transferring early they told me I needed to be in good academic standing which I am, but now I’m seeing people on here listening all this extra stuff and I’m like :open_mouth: . When I initially applied for the autumn 2016 as a transfer I didn’t see anyone in that forum listing extracurriculars just their credits and gpa. I don’t even remember seeing on the application anything about volunteering and extracurriculars. In my essay I talked about culture, my hardships, how I want to use my degree to continue to broaden my knowledge of Asian culture, and how I changed from my high school days to now. I thought volunteering and stuff was for high schoolers. That being said I will be helping out with my honor society this fall.

@aharris1105 I don’t think extracurriculars are really at all vital, but it’s just something to mention in my personal statement. Both my internships are pretty intrinsic to who I am and why I’m intending on majoring in econ and history, so I thought it merited mention. In your essay you no doubt talked about what informed your desire to study asian culture at the UW, and if you made that case well then I see no issue!

so… my stats, are at the low.

i have 3.13gpa,
and i got 2 year associate degree in art and science for general transfer
… do i have a chance?..

i said i am going to communication major, but i also said i will be applying to the major in the future quarter after admission, for classes that only offered in uw.

Thanks! I heard they take grade trend and the essay into high consideration, so I’m hoping that will help make up for my GPA being at 3.42.

@hy0407 I think you definitely still have a shot at acceptance, since your pre-requisite GPA is high.

Hey all, just wanted to enter the discussion because I’ve applied and been reading college confidential for the past 6 months…

UW is my dream school and it is really my dream to go there. I have about a 3.31 cumulative GPA, with a HUGE upward trend. I did bad in high school and my first semester of college, but I buckled down and really raised my grades a tremendous amount. I have almost all my prereqs knocked out. I’m in Phi Kappa Theta honors society and was put on the deans list my spring quarter at my school. I believe I really told a good story about the struggles I went through that reflected on my grades. I have about 51.5 credits at the moment (time of application) and will have 66.5 at the end of the fall quarter. I’m really optimistic and am staying positive. I feel like I have a chance to get in, not a great chance, but a chance.

Good luck to everyone else during these extremely stressful times, I’m here with ya!
