Winter 2017 Transfer Thread

The average fraternity is about $2,500 to live in while the average dorm costs about $4,000.

oh wow! But I don’t think I join a sorority. I just don’t really get along with women so rather pay more than live in hell

Hahah, that’s totally understandable. Living in a house with 50-70+ people of the same gender sounds a little daunting

Well I feel like frats are better because at least a frat boy is not gonna cry because he broke his nail. it’s too much drama for me.

@UWhopeful199 Do you know someone or have a family member in the fraternity that you want to join? Just saying that because it’s one thing to say you will join it’s another to actually get in. With a lot of these organizations it is about who you know also money talks too. I think the way it works if you have to be picked among the other hopeful pledges and if picked then you get to rush and go through “hell week” fraternities and sororities say they don’t do hazing but they may do it in secret because of tradition. On top of that there is pressure to not say you are getting hazed depending on the school’s rules on it. If you tell the school you and the people in the fraternity/sorority can be expelled in some schools. Then some fraternities and sororities say if one person out of your pledging line leaves then all of you can not pledge anymore. Not to mention it may be cheaper to stay in a frat house but not everyone gets too also fraternity and sorority members pay dues for the rest of their life. I have an idea of what sorority I want to join and I know some older people who I can talk to in regards to my chances of getting picked higher. Just make sure you know what you’re getting into. Also make sure you can handle all the work a university entails on top of your fraternity duties. I haven’t heard any negative things about fraternity chapters on the UW campus but still make sure this is what you want. This is a lifelong commitment. My dad is branded with his fraternity logo on him.

I think fraternity recruitment at UW is a little bit more laid back, being that it’s informal and 365 days a year. That being said, I know that doesn’t guarantee me a spot, but I have countless friends in fraternities at UW and have been visited them a handful of times and spoken to them about the greek life/community, and have heard nothing but good things.

I have quite a few friends in fraternities at the UW and it is not nearly as bad as the things that Aharris1105 discussed. For the most part fraternities and sororities are very chill. For frats what you do is you go to rush events where you get to know the frat and the people in it, and if you go to enough events you usually are able to pledge. Usually the only people who don’t get signed (meaning becoming a pledge) are people who a) didn’t go to enough rush events or b) just aren’t very nice people. I don’t know a lot about sororities at the UW but I do know they have a rush week as opposed to frats which you can rush all quarter.

Guys I hope we all get accepted. I don’t want our dreams/hopes to be crushed.

@uwtransferguy2017 I said that I haven’t heard anything bad about frats on the UW campus. I know for a fact that fraternities and sororities are not cheap. My dad is big on greek life so I may ask him for help if I need it. You have to continuously pay to remain a member. So if you are just looking for a dorm or residence it may be cheaper in the long run if you are a student struggling to get by. But just like getting housing it is not guaranteed you have to be accepted first. Like I said it is life long it is not a one time fee.

Well, lets see if our transcripts load tomorrow!

Ugh, another day that my transcript hasn’t loaded :frowning:

did anyone got theirs yet???

@uwtransferguy2017 I see it as a positive lol. At least I am not denied yet. lol

I just wanna find out already. Can’t sleep at night because my mind keeps having what if thoughts

I wonder if we will start finding out this week.

its already the 7th and my transcript hasn’t loaded yet  should i be worried

Hopefully it will load tomorrow for most people… Last two years, it has loaded at 11/5…

Anyone’s transcript load? Because mine didn’t lol

What does your transcript loading mean? Mine loads but it says UWTacoma bc that’s where I originally was my freshman year…?

@telephoneclz When you load up your unofficial transcript, it should come up with your student ID and stuff, if it does that, you’re in. If you already went to UW Bothell or Tacoma though, I don’t know… Maybe it will change to UWSeattle?
