I received my appeal decision today in the mail. ALthough they don’t offer me Fall 2005 admissions, it seems that they do offer me winter admissions. I can’t tell because theyre so vague and subtle about it. The original rejection letter i received said i was very “qualified” and that they didnt have enough room to accept me but it makes no mention of winter admissions. Please chek out the letter and lemme know what you think. Also if i reely did get admissions at sd what actions am i supposed to take? I already submitted my sir to uci and i won’t be able to talk to ucsd admissions people until monday when theyre phoneline is open. Will they still take me if its after may 1st? Any other advice?
Help is appreciated…Thx
Heres what the letter says (i typed it up so there may be typos):
Dear ********:
Although the University of California has established minimum freshman admission requirements, the number of applications to UCSD far surpasses the space available. We received more than 40,000 applications for approximately 3,900 fall spaces. Therefore, exceeding the minimum admission requirements is necessary for any applicant at UCSD.
To evaluate applicants, we used a combination of factors including high school GPA, ACT or SAT I (verbal and math) scores, SAT II (writing, math and a third subject) scores, and other factors such as leadership, honors/awards, special talents and skills, community/volunteer service, special circumstances/personal challenges, educational environment, participation in pre-collegiate programs, family income, and first-generation college student. A minimum Comprehensive Review Score was determined for admission to the fall quarter and a second score was determined for admission to the winter quarter. Your Comprehensive Review Score met the selection cut off score for the winter quarter only. Therefore, I cannot approve your request to attend in fall, 2005.
I know this is not the news you hoped to receive. Be assured your application received multiple reviews in order to reach this decision. Your appeal, along with your original application has now received two additional reviews.
If you take advantage of community college courses this summer and/or fall you should enter on schedule to graduate within four years. We are confident that you will thrive at UCSD and that this university will be enriched by your presence. We look forward to welcoming you as a new student in the winter.
Sincerely,
Mae W. Brown
