Winter break - dorm question

Sorry if this seems like a silly question. My D will be a freshman in the fall. Can any of you tell me if she will remain in the same dorm Winter and Spring terms? I'm just wondering if for winter break, she just packs a bag and comes home or if we need to store her stuff up there. I'm thinking she does keep her dorm for the entire freshman year, but would rather get confirmation from someone up there (or has been up there). Thanks so much!!

Yes, you can keep your room all the way from the beginning of the school year to the end (i.e., late May). I don’t believe you have to pay extra to stay in your room over IAP, either.

kryptonsa is correct. She can just leave her stuff there and come back as she pleases. (No extra cost for IAP, for clarification.)

Of course, there’s the option to switch dorms, or rooms, if she isn’t happy in the place she picks at the beginning of freshman year. But there’s no requirement to move out until the end of the academic year – unless a student stays at MIT for the summer. (I didn’t move out of my dorm from the beginning of sophomore year to the end of senior year, because I stayed for both of the remaining summers.)

Thank you for your replies. That was the difference between whether she could just hop a bus, plane or train home or if I needed to make hotel reservations and go pick her up. Thanks a lot!
