do students have to move EVERYTHING they brought into the dorm out during winter break?

No, you pretty much get to leave everything where it is. However, you'll have to get rid of most of your food and defrost your refrigerator.

Correct. You can leave anything you have. I would pretty much just take some clothes and my laptop. Also, you need to make sure nothing is plugged in and get a check-out sheet signed by your RA. That's it. But you do have to leave for winter break. Thanksgiving and spring break are optional.

how safe is it to leave all ur stuff behind during winter break

Your room's locked, the building's locked, and nobody's here. I'd say your stuff would be pretty safe.

In addition, my OL made a mention to remove any illegal substances you have, and that doesn't just mean booze and drugs, also incense, candles, toasters, anything you might get fined for having. (just a helpful hint for those rule breakers out there)

but if you are switching dorms for 2nd semester, then you'll have to take your stuff out of your room, however this prbly doesnt apply to most people.

So candles don't set the fire alarm off or anything? I accidentlly lit a bunch of fries on fire in the toaster oven and the fire alarm didn't go off even though the entire room was full of smoke!..
