hey i was wondering if anyone know where to find research/intern opportunities for winter break in NYC. I was thinking of Cornell Med school but i have no idea how to find out if its possible. does anyone have experience in these kind of things or suggestions to who (if there is) i should talk to to know more about these things?

are you a cornell student? there's that winter break externship thing they keep advertising around campus.

Great advice foxdie!
Here's the website with the info... it's more of a shadowing program, but I've spoken with a number of students who participated and they all said it was an valuable experience.

aw man it says for soph and up meaning fresh can't do it =(

I've found many a time that freshman are excluded from (summer) internship opportunities... you have to go out of your way to find ones that will take you.

The Cornell Extern program is excellent. If you apply, you will most likely get a spot (yes, freshmen can't do it). The great thing about it is that you can do it at home since the doctors in the program are everywhere. I remember last year a few UCSF doctors weren't even taken. I would've definitely signed up for them if I had gone home for winter break.

Instead, I shadowed a physician in Ithaca through the program. He picked me up from campus on his way to work, took me out to lunch every day that I shadowed (and paid for lunch), and even offered me some of his Cornell hockey tickets. The physicians in the program are Cornell alums and they are doing this because they want to so you should have a good experience.

That said, most of the Externships are 1 day-1 week long and aren't enough to occupy an entire winter break.

BTW: the reason freshmen can't do the Externship program is that they have their own shadowing program.

oh thats awesome!! shame its soo short lol.. but better than nothing
