D2 is a zero. She wears her hooded NorthFace jacket. It is waterproof!

Marite - From what I have seen from living in the Boston area for +30 years is that most 18 year olds don’t care about fashion either when they are walking down the street or waitng for the T on those cold, wet and windy January evenings!
As for what to bring, I would suggest waiting until you arrive to buy what you need. I would strongly suggest waterproof boots and any outer clothing that can withstand that awful wind.

Reading these posts reminded me that when my older D was a freshman, her pea coat was stolen when she was at a frat party. Then her North Face fleece was stolen at another frat party. She ended up buying a fleece jacket from either Old Navy or LL Bean which she wore to frat parties after that. It’s similar to my uncle carrying 2 wallets years ago - one for the muggers and one for him. It may be wise to purchase a cheaper jacket that will keep your D warm but won’t cost a bundle to replace, or at least have one to wear to parties where it might disappear.

stny - good point, many moons ago when I was in college my Guess coat was stolen from a bar. What was even sadder is that I saved up and paid for it myself. Wow - I haven’t thought about that in years :)

Didn’t Lindsey Lohan (sp?) steal some Columbia student’s fur coat at a party? The girl decided to sue her to try to get it back. Her publicist said it was all a big misunderstanding.
