<p>Winter Intersession is about a month long at Pasadena City College. I applied too late and my registration date isn't until next month so I'm afraid that I won't be able to get all of the classes that I want for the Fall semester. Would taking two courses during the Winter Intesession be too intensive or would I be able to handle it?</p>
<p>I'll be taking ENGL 1A which is Reading and Composition and MATH 5A which is Calculus I if I cannot take them for the Fall semester. Both should be review for me. If I take those two courses during a one month period, will I be just fine?</p>
<p>Calculus itself during the winter is very intense, it is 5 units and that's a lot of information to learn in a one month period. I'd say take calculus for the winter. Or English and something else that's 3 units for the winter.
It's really up to you though, if you think you can handle 8 units in one month. Go for it.
You can always sign up for both classes too, and during the first week if you decide that it's too much, drop it before the deadline for a W. Or remain if you think it's okay.</p>
<p>it all depends on u. I am taking english 1a for summer and its kinda hard for me cause im not good at writing. But that might not be the case for you since u said that both classes will be reviews to u.</p>
<p>It's definitely doable. However, I wouldn't recommend it even if you say its a review, as that many units is just too much for an intercession. Just chillax and take in during the normal sem... :)</p>
<p>Well Calculus I is pretty much limits, all of differentiation, and basic integration. The only thing I didn't really get too well from Calculus I was the related rates problems.</p>
<p>I think what I'll do is review all of the stuff during the Fall semester if I do not get the class so that I'll be informed with everything I need to know and pretty much just focus on the tests for the Winter.</p>

<p>it's really not that hard, in fact, i do better when everything is crammed within a short period since i won't forget what i learned</p>

as for eng 1a, it depends on your professor</p>
<p>but schedule won't come out till october, so how would you know if you can get what you want?....first year student doesn't have much priority in pcc</p>

<p>Math 5A is so easy at PCC. Actually you can pick anyone's class and get an A.
Try to add 7am calc 1! Some people can't wake up at 7am at all and eventually drop it. lol</p>
<p>Calculus by James Stewart (5th edition i believe). The one sold at the book store is a really big book and it works for 5a, 5b, 5c. If u don't need math 5c u can get the one that comes in only single varible calc, which is thinner.</p>
<p>It's doable taking these two classes together, but I think its a lot of work. I guess it depends on the teacher. Eng 1a for me was a lot of writing. I had 4 research papers and two in class essays. However, when i took eng 1b i only had 4 essays (3 of them in class) and no research paper. 5a should be easy since u took calc before. </p>
<p>Don't worry, I think you'll be able to get into these classes for fall. There are still openings in english 1a and math. If the classes are close you can always try to add the classes. Some teachers are very good about adding people. My 5b teacher added several people into the class even though the class closed. I hope u get into these classes for fall. Then you don't have to worry about taking it over winter.</p>
<p>Unfortunately i do not have the isbn. I only went up to math 5b, so i used the single variable book, which is a different number than the one you're looking for. Maybe someone on this board knows. You can always go the bookstore and check the isbn number of the book. It will have a list of courses posted and the books required, which will have the isbn. </p>
<p>If you're looking for a good deal on the calc book, trying looking for advertisments around the campus. They are usually advertised by former students, and its a lot cheaper than the bookstore. I think the pricing is usually around the price that you would find on the internet, but you don't need to pay for shipping/handling, so its probably the cheapest way to buy textbooks. </p>
