Hi, I have been a member of this site for a while now but this is my first post. I am interested in applying to Michigan as a transfer student. Currently, I am at a medium sized university in MI. I am not quite sure which semester to apply for and I am wondering whether the winter semester is any less competitive. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I assume you mean competitive regarding admissions. I'm pretty sure our adcoms know what they're doing and aren't going to deviate on the quality of student they accept from semester to semester.

Right, but they always end up having to turn away qualified applicants, and there's a chance it might be less likely in the winter semester. During the winter semester, the University is looking for people to replace those that end up dropping U of M after a semester. It really depends on how the proportion of applicants to spots available compares between fall and winter.

Yeah, I wasn't asking about whether the caliber of admitted students is any different between the two semesters...just wondering about whether the number of applicants compared to the number of admitted students differs any between fall and winter. I am asking this because I have read that applying for the winter semester at some universities increases your chances of admission. I just want to know if this applies to Michigan.

i think its just as competitive because UMs retention rate is 96% meaning that theres only a 4% chance of you getting in out of that class. 4% out of 6000 kids (estimate) for the entering class is about 240 spots available; about 1000 kids apply every semester as a transfer (or more)...so actually! u have a 24% chance, thats lower than fall admissions!
