My mom wants to buy plane tickets for winter break now since it's significantly cheaper, but I don't know the dates of Cornell's winter break!

This website has "winter session" but I don't know if that is the same as winter break? Can anyone tell me the start and end dates of winter break at Cornell please? Much appreciated!

Technically, winter session is for those who want to take three week long classes during the winter. Winter break starts on the last day of exams (latest Dec 20, or earlier depending on your exam schedule) and ends on the first day of classes for the spring semester (Jan 22). Unless you are taking classes at Cornell during the winter, you will have to move out of the dorm around Dec 20, and you can return a week or two before classes start.

Thank you very much! If anyone else could confirm this, that’d be great. Thanks again :)

“You may not occupy or enter residence halls/houses during official University recesses. All residence halls/houses shall be closed between 12/21/13 at 2:00pm through 1/14/14, reopening on 1/15/14 at 9:00am. You must vacate your room/apartment within twenty-four hours of your last final examination and in any event no later than the residence hall closing time.”

So let me get this straight. The exams end on December 14, so I need to be out by December 15. Does this mean that they’ll charge extra if I leave by December 21?

You will not be able to stay beyond Dec 15. I am not sure if you want to buy your tickets this far in advance. I would wait until you know approximately when your exams will be and if you are coming back for the rush.

Yes, while technically you are supposed to leave 24 hours past your last exam, in practice, this isn’t really enforced, as long as you leave before noon on the last Saturday after exams. (If you’re really worried about it, I suppose you could always say that you have a paper due on the last day of exams, thus you want to stay longer…)

While it’s good to buy tickets early, like @oldfort says, you may want to wait to find out when your exams are (you may want to leave earlier if all your exams are done early), and if you’re coming back early for rush or not. Even if you wait until September or October, you should still be able to get good prices for plane tickets

I find booking airfare too far in advance doesn’t get you the best price. Try to use farecast dot com to predict airfare price.
