I am debating on whether or not to take J Term as a time to go home and take a break or not. Do students do this? Would I be missing out if I didn't stay for J Term?
I know it won't effect my amount of credits this year, but will I miss out on something by not staying or is it worth the break?

Why do you say it won’t affect credits? If you stay - you take a 4 credit class and are that much further along. My impression is that it is a fun, laidback time on campus and most freshmen stay. And the cost is already included in your fall bill - so it is paid for. But if you need a break, only you can make that decision.

I think most kids do the January term BUT it is a laid back term. Some students do a study abroad or a domestic travel experience, so friends may be missed at that time.
Still it can be a great time to take something out of your normal area of interest. My understanding is that there is less going on at campus during this time.

Something like 95% of freshmen return to campus for winter term. It’s generally considered to be a fun time at Elon. Many upperclassmen are abroad, but those who are not generally return to campus. I think “skipping” winter term at Elon is rare.

Remember you have a couple weeks off before winter term and you have fake break when you can go home again for over a week.

January term classes have been a great experience for my son. He has taken classes that he’d rather not take along with a full courseload.
