Winter Transfer student: dorms or sublet?

What would you recommend? Anyone have any 6 month sublet leads?

What’s your class standing? If you’re an underclassman, I would suggest staying in the dorms as it’s a good way to meet people. If you’re a junior transfer, I’m not too sure what your best option would be, but there are always people looking to sublet their rooms on the UW Facebook group.

Good luck, and congratulations on getting in!

@coriander23 Thanks! I’m a junior transfer. Having trouble finding sublets though… which UW facebook page would people list sublets on? Any areas I should avoid? I’m not real familiar with the area…

You could also consider UW housing, which would put you really close to campus. Mercer, Stevens, Nordheim Court and Cedar Apartments all have a lot of upperclassmen and even graduate students, I believe. I think if you apply for housing the first two will be prorated, but you may be better off subleasing or finding one for the latter two as they are a 12-month lease.

As for location, that’s a good question–I’m not too sure about that either. I do feel like certain parts of the U District (such as the Ave going above 45th) can get a little dicey at night, so I would try to avoid that. Here’s the UW page for more housing options: <a href=“Housing & Food Services - UW HFS”>Housing & Food Services - UW HFS;

Hope this helped!

You should look into DD Culp in U-District. It’s literally right across the street from UW.
A studio and 1Br apartment is supposedly opening up sometime in early December.
I’ve heard that they offer non-traditional leases, but not entirely sure!

Join the housing page on Facebook! It’s super helpful.
