I just applied for the freshman summer and was rejected. I plan to take the 15 credit intensive 2nd year Japanese class along with another 5 credit freshman class (Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) at the UW during the summer and then go to CC for the fall quarter.

What are my chances of transferring into UW for the winter quarter?
What would you recommend doing from now on in order to do so?
Would it happen in time for me to transfer to honors as well?

Another thing that I was wondering is how much the high school transcript plays in transfer admissions, especially for winter quarter of freshman year. I will most likely end high school with about a 3.0 or 3.1 which is pretty bad by UW standards. Will this kill, maim, or only hinder my chances. Thanks.

it’s hard to gauge what your odds. You haven’t taken the classes yet at uw/cc to know what grades you’ll get.

browse through here for guidance: [Transfer — Plan your Transfer — University of Washington](Transfer | Office of Admissions)
and attend a transfer thursday session

If you take under 40 credits to be transfered, your hs transcript plays a huge role
over 40, not so much

One thing that I was think about is retaking the SAT to get over 2000. I was also going to get 20 credits in the summer and 20 in the fall so I could have a total of 40 by the beginning or winter quarter. Do they look at how many credits you have at the time of application or how many you would have upon entering UW? Would that work or would the timing be off? Would I need to get a direct admit for spring quarter instead?

@saxman66 . . . when did you receive your letter?

I also applied as a freshman for summer quarter and I still haven’t heard anything!

Mine was sent on the 23rd and I got it yesterday. I think the reason that I got mine so soon is because I was way below the average applicant so they just threw me away as soon as they saw me. The longer they keep you, the better your chances.

I’m sorry to hear that. You obviously love the UDub. Good luck with whatever you end up doing. I hope you end up a Husky one way or the other.

I was in the same position last year. I got waitlisted and then rejected from UW as a freshman, so I decided that I’d start taking classes at a CC as soon as summer started, even though I had already enrolled at another state school in Washington. I took 15 credits last summer at CC, and got about a 3.9. Then in the fall, I took 17 credits at my state school, and I applied for winter quarter. I’m pretty sure they only look at how many credits/grades you have when you’re applying, not what you’re GOING to have. I was rejected, so now I’ve transferred back to CC to increase my chances of admission. I hope this helps!

One thing I was wondering was which CC I should go to. I know that they said the UW doesn’t care but that still doesn’t mean that all CCs are created equal. Which ones would you recommend and why. Keep in mind that I want to major in CSE, EE, AA, or mathematics and minor in technical Japanese. I can’t find any unbiased info on it so I would appreciate any experience to make sure I don’t waste what I hope to be only a few quarters and that I am up to speed when I get to UW.

40 credits by the time you apply.

personally, I loved going to seattle central. Really great school. Most of the teachers are great (only a few bad apples). And of the teachers there is better then any teacher i’ve had at uw so far, he changes people’s lives.

Also, the school is very diverse which i like

BTW personally I’d take your language at a community college not uw. I know people at uw that took their language at seattle central while enrolled at the uw over the summer, because it’s the same education at 1/2 the price.
